Meet GAGE

This gregarious, outgoing GORGEOUS guy was gallivanting around the downtown area for about a year, being looked after by resident Sarah O. When he came to her with a nasty wound at the base of his right ear in early November, 2014, she knew she had to get him in somewhere safe, so she contacted us. Since he was all boy and had been out and about for a long time, it really didn't surprise me when he turned up a very strong FIV positive - it upset me, but I wasn’t shocked. In a purr-fect world this magnificent boy would have been neutered, indoors and not in need of my help OR a home, but we all know the harsh reality of things prevails more often than not. Now the wound our 4 year old fella (born in late 2010) was sporting wasn't a through-and-through puncture wound, but when I posted his pic and asked my Facebook friends to help me pick a name, Gage won out. Initially not only did I think this was cute, given his pierced pinna, but the more I got to know and adore him , the more fitting it became, as he is completely and utterly engaging!

From his photos, Gage looks to be a very sturdy and solid, a well-muscled, masculine purr machine! But since he was so heavily laden with fleas upon arrival, inside our handsome hunk was suffering from an anemia caused by blood parasites transmitted by the fleas. Antibiotics to kill off the culprits, as well as top-notch external parasite control soon got him back on track, thankfully!

Once at our sanctuary, Gage was all about greeting and getting to know the others, finding his feline companions absolutely delightful and the volunteers simply amazing. He cannot get enough human attention, luxuriously basking in the warmth of the hands stroking his fur and nuzzling his face. I honestly don't think he could have ever imagined a life so good in the wildest of his dreams; his transformation from street cat to spoiled has been seamless! We are totally in love with Gage and are so thankful to Sarah for caring for him as she did, when countless others simply turned their heads and let him fend for himself. Second chances are what we are all about, and due to the efforts of people like her, this great guy and all of the other inhabitants at Big Sid's are alive and well, and we are able to tell their astounding stories in hopes of landing them homes of their own one fine day!
