Energy Level (Couch Potato, Moderate or High): Moderate
Special Needs:Bear does have moderate hip dysplasia and will need to remain on medication None
Arrival story: Bear was surrendered to a local shelter along with his two other canine housemates. His previous family was unable to give him the care he needed. When we spotted this boy, we knew we had to help. He was underweight, his coat was filthy and flea ridden, he was heartworm positive, and we later found he also has hip dysplasia.
Personality: Though Bear arrived in rough physical shape, his huge heart was unscathed. From the change of family and home to a painful heartworm treatment, this guy has never shown anything but love and kindness to everyone he encounters. Bear enjoys life and anyone who enters his. He loves to be with his people and will gladly accompany you during the day, never more than a room away. Car rides are a blast, walks and laying around in the yard is fun, too.
Forever home: Bear would likely fit well into many households. He asks that you understand his breed as being protective, yet loving. He is not aggressive so he doesn't want you to be either. You need to be affectionate and be willing to share a spot on your couch. Though he enjoys a good run around the yard and squirrel chase, comfortable lounging is a must. His x-ray shows hip dysplasia, though he wouldn't have told us he has it. So he does require a lifelong anti-inflammatory to ease the discomfort that comes with that. A good diet and joint supplements will help, too.
