Meet Lily Pupcakes

My name is Lily Pupcakes and I am insulin-dependent. But before I get into that, let me tell you a bit about my spectacular self. I am on the shorter end of the spectrum for a girl (22” at the withers) and that has its advantages! My foster sibling Murphy is a Weim/Dane mix and when everyone is trying to get out the door at the same time, I just walk right under him and he does not even notice! I have the coolest cowlick down the middle of my nose. I snore. I can cuddle with the best of them. I love playing with my doggie siblings, but I will always love playing and just being with you more. I know sit and down really reliably but when I am sniffing around the yard my prey-drive kicks in and do not have the best recall…because I am working! (I will need a fence in my forever home.) I love car rides and curling up in the drivers seat awaiting your return (I am working then too…by keeping your seat warm) and I will always let you know when the FedEx delivery man arrives…BEFORE he arrives.

I am also a very special girl. Did you know that 29.1 million people or 9.3% of the U.S. population has diabetes just like me? (And 28% don’t even know it yet!) If you are one in 10 like me (aka “special”), you know that diabetes is quite easily managed! I get two injections of insulin a day (following meals) and that is it! As long as I stick to a routine (the same food at the same time and a bit of exercise) I am just like any other dog. But more special!!

I am also a very lucky girl. My diabetes was discovered in early October when I woke up and my world turned completely black because of cataracts. It was very scary not being able to see, but within 3 weeks I had surgery and my vision was 100 percent restored. I am lucky because I was diagnosed and even luckier to have one of the best ophthalmologists in Michigan perform the surgery because I will now never develop cataracts again. The technique was called Phacoemulsification and is the exact same procedure they do for humans. I even received new lenses in each eye (which is likely how I can see the FedEx man before you can)!

So…if you’re looking for a spectacular, special, lucky, loving girl, please visit me! I would love to see you. xoxo
