Meet Art

We have a homo beige male chinchilla looking for a new home. He his name is Art and he is approximately 1-2 years old (he was born sometime 2013/2014). Art came to our rescue from another rescue in Chicagoland, when they decided to focus solely on cats and dogs.

Art is a chinchilla with a personality. He can be talkative, especially when you reach into his cage to pick him up. He is not always talkative, but has his days when his personality shines through more, and he talks with you as you go to pick him up. Art is a multifaceted boy. While he enjoys running on his wheel, he also loves snuggling himself away in his tube or hidey house, and can often be found chilling in one of those. He does well with being handled and petted, though he would much rather be sitting in a small room with you having playtime. Playtime would probably do a good job of getting him settled down a bit, so that he could be held more. He does just fine, just has a lot of energy. He does not bite.

A quick note on his pictures: Art is the color called “homo beige” – it is the lighter of the two beige colors in chinchilla, almost a champagne type beige. This beige color comes with red eyes. Art’s eyes are more of a ruby color – dark red. The super pinkish bright eyes you see in the photos are a result of the camera flash, due to his cage being in a darker corner of the room. The one pic that doesn’t have the flash shows his eyes at their normal color.

Art would be just fine as a “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had one before, as long as that home understands his energy requirements.

This chinchilla has lived with another chinchilla before, and they got along just fine. However, we tried to pair him with another chinchilla here, and that didn’t go quite as smoothly. Because of this, we are recommending that he go to a home as a single chinchilla, or, if someone is looking at him as a buddy for other chins, they do so with the knowledge that he would likely require a very slow, drawn out introduction to the other chinchilla, and that they could potentially be looking at Art as a second chinchilla, in a second cage.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (Mazuri pellets), a goodie bag of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. He will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This chinchilla is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, but we do not ship.

The adoption fee for Art is $100
