Meet Fielder

FIELD HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

HERE'S WHAT HIS ADOPTERS HAVE TO SAY:

Hello:

I thought I should take the time to send you an update on “Fielder.” Note we are also enclosing a picture of our friend.

To begin with, he is no longer called “Fielder” because he showed his true personality once we got him home.. he was and is “Rascal.”.. Never before have we had such so much fun as we do with him and he is such a lovable, attentive and considerate family member.

Rascal loves his new mom, Alice, and adores his new “sheep” also known as the grandchildren, Sean and Erin, and loves to play with his dad, Mike…and takes good care of his Uncle Joe.

After the long ride from West Virginia, Rascal just settled in and has become such an important part of the family. He came to us so well trained and polite. He knows that when mom gets in bed, to lay down next to her side of the bed until morning or 5:00 am which ever comes first. Then.. Just like the rascal he is.. he jumps up on mom's side of the bed and proceeds to lick her face, sneeze in her hair and paws her until she gets out of bed to let him outside. Then he prowls his back yard. He loves to run through the tall grass plants that are in the corners of the fence and bark at the neighbors. The neighbors keep their distance because our Rascal looks like he would bite your arm off if you tried to come into his yard. Yet he is ever so gentle with anyone who comes into his yard through the house with his family in tow…

He never has adjusted to being on a leash, so he seldom goes out of the yard, by his choice. We have attempted numerous times to walk him on the leash, but he wants nothing of it.. he is a very happy dog.. as long as he is in his back yard.. and he protects is very well. No one within eyesight can miss his astute senses.. He loves to bark at the dogs across the way, and when the deer or horses walk around the area .. he is on their trail even though these other animals are no where near him or the yard. He has several large balls that he plays soccer with.. he jumps on them, pushes them around and will "walk" them away if you try to get the ball from him.. it is hysterical to see him play with the balls... He does go with his dad every 5 weeks to get his nails done at the groomer and goes to the vet, but really does not like to ride in the car.. he loves his house and yard and that is it!

Although when we met Rascal, his first mom, Leslie, was not sure he liked to play, I can now tell you that he LOVES to play. His dad, Mike, bought him a huge stuffed sheep (almost as big as he is) and Rascal carries it around all through the house.. he has other toys that he loves to play with.. stuffed monkeys, balls, pigs and all kinds of squeaky toys.. He loves to chew rawhide and treats and NEVER bites.

When we first got Rascal he was 38 pounds.. Now he is about 54 pounds and very large and very lovable. He adores his ears scratched and loves his mom’s kisses.. Mom discovered a very dear friend in Rascal.. He loves to listen to her sing and will dance with her when asked. He never leaves her alone in a room and helps with the laundry sorting, and checks on her several times during the night to make sure she is in bed and sleeping…

Rascal adores the grandchildren, Sean and Erin. He loves to rustle with them and run in the yard and give them big licks. When the kids come over and spend the night Rascal does not sleep as he spends most of the night walking from room to room checking on the kids and mom so when the kids go home, Rascal takes a long nap.

We are so thankful to you and your organization and Leslie for such a wonderful job you all did with Rascal, AKA Fielder. We just cannot imagine our lives without him.. he has grown into being such a great friend and we love him dearly. Thank you for everything…

Fielder's Original Petfinder Listing

Fielder - male - 5 months old - black and white medium length coat - possibly lab and spaniel - predicted to weigh 40 pounds at maturity

This stellar guy is Fielder, a lovable and loving pup whose skills with people are as good as his skills in the outfield. Happy in the company of both dogs and humans, Fielder wears his big heart on his
sleeve. He has the look and the demeanor of a spaniel/lab mix in a slightly smaller package. His mom, a Carolina Dog, or, "yeller dog" as they are called in the country is 25 pounds. A wildlife rehabilitator rescued Fielder's mom, who had been living in the open country and was starving, shortly before she gave birth to 6 healthy pups. With
devoted and skilled care, mom made a remarkable recovery herself, and is ample evidence of the good stock from which Fielder came.

Fielder enjoyed the perfect puppy childhood - quiet, nurturing and socializing surroundings with siblings to tumble about with and his canine mom's full and constant attention and tutelage.

Consequently, Fielder is a stable, attentive, and confident puppy whose strong eye contact is focused and alert. Eager to please and quick to learn, Fielder's accomplishments promise that his future training will be a pleasure; he already has been successfully housebroken, and he has learned to "sit" for treats.

He is energetic without a trace of nervousness, loves to play fetch with a tennis ball, and in fact shows every sign of being quite expert in both catch and fetch. He ploughs through snow with abandon and joy.

Indoors, Fielder is a wonderfully affectionate little nuzzler whose expectations of love and treats have never gone unrewarded, and who will offer back in full measure his love and devotion to an adoptive family.
