Meet Handsome ( blind )

Handsome was brought to the shelter on February 18th, 2015. As his name indicates, he is a handsome 1 year old neutered male with a classic brown tabby coat and soft orange eyes. Handsome is a special fellow in need of a special home as he is blind. His right eye has recently been removed, and unfortunately he is blind in the other eye. We are not sure if he can see light or not, as the pupil does seem to react to light. This will be examined more closely when it is time for his stitches to be removed. Handsome is currently in foster care and is doing great! He has his own room, and after being shown a couple of times remembered very quickly where his food, water, and litter box is. He used his whiskers to slowly walk the perimeter of the room, and got his bearings very quickly. He also found the cardboard cat scratcher on his own and LOVES to use it! His foster mom set him up on the bed, and helped him stretch over the side to the floor so he could learn to jump down. He quickly jumped off, and within a couple of days jumped up on the bed. Handsome is very affectionate and sweet; he loves attention, purrs a lot, and is good with people! He enjoys being petted and talked to, and he's friendly at all times; his favorite thing is to be in your company; Handsome is quite trusting for not being able to see; he does great when being picked up and/or being on your lap, and though he may hang on tight, he's great with his claws and tries hard to be gentle. This loving feline is easy going and has an excellent temperament. He is a VERY happy and affectionate cat! He loves to smash his whole head into your hand for petting. He purrs easily and flops over so you can pet his belly. He also LOVES to be brushed. Handsome will need a quiet home with understanding pet parents to watch out for him, and to show him where things are if you should move furniture, his food, or litter pans. He is now jumping on and off of furniture and likes to hang out on the back of a couch. He is also walking up and down stairs easily. Handsome does well with other cats and seems to enjoy their company. He was terrified at first of the dogs in his foster home, but has realized that they won't harm him; now he walks right past them with confidence, so he may do fine in a home with a calm, cat friendly dog that has lived with cats and won't chase them. There is nothing more rewarding than to give a special needs animal the love and affection they deserve, and you can be sure that Handsome will return that love forever. Please check back for updates on this wonderful feline.
