Meet Bud
ADOPTION PENDING
Bud is a fabulous 10 year old senior! He has a beautiful black and silver coat. When we picked him up he was very overweight at almost 125 pounds and should weigh closer to 90 pounds for his height and size. His foster family along with his veterinary team have him on the Science Diet Metabolic food plan as well as a structured exercise regimen to get him moving. So far Bud has already lost 13 pounds and is getting around much better and feeling great. He is now able to climb 4 stairs which is a big improvement but still a physical limitation to be considered by any potential adopters. Bud is also on a daily dose of Rimadyl to help with his creaky joints which we also expect to improve after we get his weight down. Otherwise, he is in excellent health. Bud is a very sweet boy. He is very gentle with people of all ages and sizes and gets along very well with every dog he has met. Bud lives in a foster home with a 9 year old female and a 2 year old male with no problems of dominance or guarding. Bud does not however like cats and should not be placed in a home with a cat. Bud craves attention from every human in the house and would make a great companion dog for someone even if they don’t have a lot of prior GSD experience. He is happy to lay around and take an occasional walk but does not require a lot of activity. He walks well on a leash and knows sit and as he settles in we will work on a few more commands to challenge him. Bud recently attended the Pet Expo where he was exposed to a lot of people and dogs and he was a wonderful ambassador for the rescue. Everyone that meets him falls in love with him. Bud is fully house trained and has not had a single accident or tried to mark in the house. While he crates well it really isn’t necessary so he is home alone all day uncrated. Probably not much of a watch dog though as his foster family has not heard him bark yet after 3 weeks.
