HERE'S WHAT HIS ADOPTER HAS TO SAY:



I wanted to give you an update, with many thanks, on the dog we adopted. We adopted Doodles, or Blake as you may have known him, in August of 2004. The woman who had him temporarily has some issues with him and her current dog. Well after a few months of living with us, Doodles became more and more lethargic, disagreeable and plain fat. We took him to the vet and discovered this guy had a slow thyroid. He has been on his medication for about a year, has trimmed down and become quite the gentleman.



I've gone to training class with him and found him very eager to please and a quick learner. He is very intelligent and we are amazed by his good manners and loyality. We couldn't believe someone give-up this wonderful dog. We're also convinced that he had some extensive training early in his life.

Blake - terrier/possibly mixed with lab - soft golden and cream pily coat (see footnote) - 38 pounds - 2 and 1/2 years old - male/neutered


With his jaunty gait, button ears, otter head, and gaily carried curl tail, Blake is all terrier. His intent, curious expression is accentuated by his tilted head, and his keen interest in life is guided by his belief that "all good things come to Blake."



Blake has been raised since puppy-hood by a single owner to whom he gave himself heart and soul. Circumstances beyond either of their
control have brought Blake to Hedgseville Hounds, but it is important to know that behind his comical self-interest is a heart capable of absolute fidelity. He may carry himself as if he is happy-go-lucky, but
he is also by nature an extremely loyal and devoted fellow seeking an equally loyal and devoted human.



Blake loves to watch through the window, noting with pleasure all the comings and goings in the world around him. Once outside, he trots about studying all the things he had witnessed through the window with
fascination.


He has a wonderful self-possession, and is calm and appropriate indoors, and vigorous and exuberant outside.



Very well-trained, Blake is accomplished in many commands, including "sit", "lay down", "shake" (which he performs variously as a lefty and a righty), "speak", "come", "bed", "where's your bone?" (his best command), and "car ride!", (also a favorite.) One still holds hope for Blake mastering the command "stay", but we reasonably have given up on
"Don't chase the cats".



Blake is also fastidious in his personal habits. He is beautifully house-trained, and he confines his chewing to his personal toys and bones. He settles down on a leash after a few minutes, but his initial
response to being outside involves a joyful bounding impulse.



His eye contact is direct and open, and although his expression right now is tinged with a sense that he feels bereft, there is still a trusting, confident and expectant nature underneath. He is a communicative fellow, and will twist his head playfully, and then yawn
excessively as a pre-cursor to play, which is always followed up by a sprawling, frog-legged, and exceedingly happy and contented repose.



Blake is friendly and open to other dogs, but his primary allegiance is to people. He was raised as an only dog with a high level of bonded and
close kinship. For the adopter who seeks a funny terrier with a big heart, Blake's your man.
