Meet Jilly
Jilly here! I am 4 years old and a spayed female Bluetick Coonhound mix. I was brought to the shelter as a stray, and later spent some time at a foster home. A note from Jilly's former foster family: We Love Jilly!!! We could only foster Jilly for a week: my kids were forever forgetting to close the door behind them, and out went Jilly! Can you blame her? An open door was just too sweet a temptation. I'm certain this behavior would be easily controlled with time and obedience training. We would catch her of course: but a dog running loose is against the law, not safe for her, and was causing a little too much marital discord. Very very sadly, I had to bring her back. But please know I consider this failure to successfully foster Jilly our fault, not hers. Jilly is an amazing dog. Being at the shelter really stresses her, she barks and jumps and doesn't show her true personality. In our house, Jilly was mellow, loving and (other than the door thing) perfectly obedient. She knows the commands: sit, lie down, stay, come, and lifts her paw when she wants something. She isn't possessive of her food bowl, and takes treats gently. She doesn't beg at the table, but does sit nearby and give you moon eyes while you eat. She's hard to resist! She loves to play fetch, and knows drop to give you the ball. She heels well during walks and sits at intersections. She does tend to follow her nose, but a quick gentle pull on her collar brings her back to attention. I think Jilly would be a great hunting dog with the right training. She has the coonhound nose and is constantly sniffing. She has great eyesight and when she spies a critter she freezes and stands at point. Either as a working dog and/or family pet, I don't think you could get better. She even passed my test for dogs I want around my kids. She doesn't care if you yank on her ears, or put your hands in her mouth: she just gives you a rather puzzling look while you're doing it. Lastly, Jilly is great in the car. I tested her ability to wait in the car while we shopped (15-20 minutes) and observed her without her seeing me. She waited quietly without any barking, scratching, or chewing. I was really impressed. She did better than any of my dogs ever did! So if you've gotten this far; I hope you'll take the time to get to know Jilly and consider adopting her. She's a really sweet soul and deserves a second look. Thank you for considering her, and thank you for reading!
