Dear Santa- The big night is approaching, and I'm sure you're busy, but I have a small favor to ask. Well, maybe small to you, but it is big in my heart. Remember me? I'm Axle. I'm the 2 yr old Red Heeler at the shelter. The one the volunteers call "SweetiePie," "Smoochie-poo" or "My Little Jelly Bean". It's humiliating, I know, but it always comes with kisses and hugs, so I cope. I mean, look at me! I'll dress up in anything if it means a cuddle afterwards! Anyhow, I've been with Adopt A Dog for so long and I really just want a family of my own. Few have tried, but apparently SOME parents don't appreciate my Small-Child herding skills, or my attempts to save them from those small, fluffy, purring things that taunt me in my dreams. Well, on your travels, if you should come across an active, loving family deserving of the Best Dog in the World who will show them tricks they never knew, or if that family needs a good foot warmer (that would be ME), please leave them a little extra something in their stockings and directions to the shelter. Tell them I'm an excellent leash walker, and am the best companion on long hikes. I like to play and romp with other dogs, so if they already have one, that's fine. If they have a teenager or someone who can toss a ball for a good game of fetch, or keep up with me in Tug-toy, I'll show them my best stuff! Let them know I won't take up a lot of room on the couch, but I will fill their hearts with love and joy, and they will wonder what they ever did before I came into their lives! I'm housetrained, have all my shots and am microchipped. I'm obedient and thoughtful, smart, and determined to please. I just need someone to lead, and I'll be waiting patiently with my heart full of hope and promise that next year will be better than the last.
