Meet Callie - Adopted

Good With Cats: Yes
House Trained: Yes
Crate Trained: Yes, but not necessary
Walks Nicely On A Leash: Yes.
Knows Basic Commands: Yes. Some.
Energy Level (Couch Potato, Moderate or High): Moderate to High
**Special Needs: A luxating patella or slip kneecap that is generally stable. Once in a while it slips but has not posed an issue enough for medical intervention.

Arrival story: I was found as a stray and a nice family started feeding me and took me in. They looked and looked for my lost people but they were nowhere to be found! Their child was having allergies because of me so they asked Waggin' Tails to help me find new people. They said I would not do well in a shelter environment and were they right! I'm not very bold, that would have been extremely hard on me.

Approximate age / Weight: 1 year old and 42 lbs

Personality: I am a shy and sensitive girl. But I warm up quickly and love everyone I meet! The 2-legged ones - old or young, the 4-legged ones that bark or meow. It doesn't matter. I want to be friends with everyone. At the adoption events, I gravitate towards the kids who stop by.

I don't like loud, noisy people or households though. It makes me run to the other room and look a little scared. I prefer my environment to be serene. But I'm still a young girl so don't get me wrong, I LOVE to play! Humans are great for fetch, tug-o-war, walks, and cuddling. Oh, and I want to sleep in your bed. I don't have to, but it's appreciated if you'd let me. I won't bug you and clunk around. But just a warning: I will wake you up with kisses, just to start your day on a happy note and let you know I love you.

And dog friends, YES!! I cannot get enough of playing with my canine pals. We chase and tumble and have the best time. I'm always gentle and considerate though. I understand boundaries. I like to share toys and try to get my friends to do keep away and tug. Once in a while, if I'm really racing around the yard, that darn trick knee will slip out of place. It hurts so I'll cry and run up to my human for comfort. If she lightly rubs it that seems to make me feel better and I'm off again in a couple minutes. For all the running I do it really doesn't happen too often. If you have a sweet, friendly dog who needs a best sister ever - I'm your girl!

Right now I live with some cats, as well. I like them! If I get too sniffy in the tail area, they'll hiss or slap at me. I just back away and dip my head so they know I was just trying to say 'Hi.’ Overall they like me back and let me lay with them. So I must be doing cat manners alright according to their rules.

I am house-trained, crate-trained (but don't need to be), don't chew stuff or make a mess. I know some basic training commands. I'm very smart. I bark sometimes if I'm excited and even talk a little. I had some tummy trouble with the food I was eating that had chicken in it so I switched to fish & sweet potato. It's yummy and no more issues. I like to ride in the car, too. I am good at the vet’s office. Going to new places still makes me nervous. I think it's because of all this moving I've done in the last few months. But once I get my roots planted again, I should feel more at ease traveling with my family.

Because I'm so sensitive, it is best that I have a physically fenced yard to run in. I don't think I'd take well to one of those electric fence collars. I will confess that I'm squirrel/bunny/critter crazy so I would likely blast through that invisible fence and be too scared to come back through if it hurt me.

Forever home: I would fit into many different types of families. I don't want to ever have to wonder where my people went again. And if you have a cool dog, or a cool neighbor dog, or a cool family dog that I can visit with…hint, hint! :)

Pre-Adoption Application: To be considered for a dog, it is best to submit a pre-adoption application. The Pre-Adoption Application can be downloaded from our website - http://www.waggintailsdogrescue.org/adoptionprocess.html. Just complete the application and email it back to wtdr2008@yahoo.com
Waggin' Tails Adoption Information: Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue has a standard adoption fee of $225 for adult dogs. Different adoption fees apply for older dogs, small breeds and puppies - $125 for senior dogs, $275 for small breed dogs and $250 for puppies, plus a $50 deposit which is returned upon proof of spay/neuter at six months of age. Our adoption process includes an application, vet reference checks, and a home visit.
We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar for the latest information. Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).
Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only.
Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog!
