Meet Maggie Mae

Maggie Mae is a sweet girl who loves to be near and to be petted, and if allowed, sit in your lap. She also has a spunky, fun personality, and enjoys hanging out and chilling as much as she enjoys playing. She does has a fairly strong prey drive, so she will chase birds and other small animals. Cats are not recommended. She will react strongly to dogs she does not know who might surprise her or run up on her, or who she sees in the distance. For that reason, she is not a candidate for dog parks, or for walking in areas where dogs are running loose, or otherwise being walked. She will tend to boss other dogs she lives with at times which includes trying to fight with them, so ideally, unless one is an experienced dog handler, a home without other dogs would be best, or one who has just one other dog who is laid back and of even temperament. Any other dog in the household will have to be evaluated by a representative of Red Fern.

Maggie is about 25 pounds, and about 2 years old, or so (as of 5/29/15). She is currently in foster care. Maggie is crate trained and house trained. Maggie knows sit, down, 'enough' and wait. She is improving with car rides, but seems to get a bit car sick or anxious which leads to some drooling and throwing up, She is not a candidate for someone who wants a dog to go camping, boat riding, on trips, etc. She may be one day in the future, once she learns to trust a car, but anyone adopting Maggie at this time should not have that lifestyle, currently. She is willingly jumping up into a vehicle now, but she still has some anxiety or motion sickness issues.

Maggie would do best in a home where she is not left alone for long periods of time, and ideally where one is home most of the day. She is a people dog, and is not fond of being isolated by herself without human companionship. A backyard is a must with a secure 5-6 ft. fence, no exceptions, so her need of being able to run and play safely can be met. Maggie can be a bit barky when left alone, so a condo. or apartment would not be an appropriate environment for Maggie.

A lot of people have wanted to adopt Maggie, however, the criteria that has been laid out must be met, to meet her needs. She is a cute furry one, but the potential adopter should be focused on her needs, rather than her cuteness. There will be no exceptions.

Maggie Mae's adoption fee is 200.00 which includes all vetting, spaying, heart worm preventative, flea/tick management, worming, microchip, teeth cleaning, and vaccinations. You can email Maggie's foster mom at magnolia461@msn.com for more information Please visit www.redfern.petfinder.org to submit an adoption application, if you think you would qualify, based on the criteria set forth in the description. Thank you for considering a rescued dog!
