Meet Shasta

Hi,
My name is Shasta and I’m a 4-year-old female, Catahoula/Pit Bull mix. While I can’t tell you much about my past (it might make you too sad and I only want to make you smile), I can tell you that I have a zest for life that will inspire you. I’m not only thankful to be here, but I’m also looking forward to finding my forever family who will continue to take special care of me, protect me and love me like an integrated member of their family.
All the volunteers and staff love me and I’m a very sweet girl who loves everyone too. They tell me every day that soon it will be my turn to go to my forever home and live a wonderful life. They even let me practice in the Real Room where I get to spend time relaxing away from my kennel, just chilling out on a cool thing called a futon.
As you probably noticed I’ve got a huge smile and I have to say that shows you how much joy and happiness I know this world has to offer. You may also have noticed I lost my eye. It’s ok now and doesn’t hurt, but I am completely blind. But don’t let that sway you from adopting me.
Just like blind people, blind dogs are highly adaptable and adoptable. I love people and I’m told I have the gentlest way about me, especially as I sniff to find my way (and the volunteers) out in the yard. I easily find you and then nicely jump up so you can pet me (See – I told you we were very adaptable!?)

I walk remarkably well on leash and I’m not timid about exploring or being in a yard on my own. And my confidence will only continue to grow when my new family takes me into their home and shows me the lay of the land. We have volunteers here who have adopted blind dogs if you want to talk with someone about living with a blind dog.
Because my blindness is new and my senses are overly heightened, I need time to adjust so I’ll need to be the only dog at home right now. That's not to say that down the road once I get used to my new surroundings and life without my sight that another dog could possibly be introduced to me. I just need time to adjust for now.
If you are looking for a gentle girl to show you the loyalty that “Pitties” are known for and have a special place in your heart for a girl with slightly special needs, ask to meet me now. I know that I can make you smile for the rest of your life – maybe a smile as wide as mine!
