Meet Bear
QUICK HIGHLIGHTS: Gorgeous, affectionate, interactive, & talkative Maine Coon. Loves people, kids, cats, & dogs. Fully vaccinated, neutered, & microchipped. FIV+ but extremely healthy & can live a long & happy life, just like any other cat. Please keep reading...
Bear is one of the greatest cats I've ever met which makes it hard to understand why his previous owners failed him. He had owners because he's a real "people cat" but something happened because when he wound up at Animal Control, he was dirty, matted, painfully thin, and had an old leg injury that was so infected, he could barely walk.
We rescued him from the shelter immediately and fixed all that. He's back to his stunning former self and his leg, after surgery, is healing well. He got all his shots, was neutered, & microchipped. And despite what he must have gone through, he never lost his amazing personality. He's so sweet & playful and he has so much love to give.
We also learned that he's FIV+ which means that he will have a harder time finding a home. People are scared of FIV but they shouldn't be. FIV+ cats can live as long as other cats. They can be more prone to infections but if kept indoors, well-fed, & loved, that shouldn't be an issue. FIV is not contagious to humans or dogs and can only be transmitted to other cats through DEEP bite wounds, in the case of a serious fight (not play swatting like cats will do.) To learn more about FIV, please read this great article: http://bestfriends.org/Resources/Pet-Care/Cats/Health-And-Care/FAQs-About-FIV/
I can't say enough good things about Bear and I'm hoping that someone will give him a chance. I know he is too. If you have no other cats or a really laid back cat, please consider Bear. Or, if you just want to do a really nice thing (that will be SO worth it that you think you're the lucky one), consider adopting a pair of FIV+ cats. We have two others: Tabitha & Bella Rose.
Please don't just click on by because he's FIV+. Fill out an application at www.angelsrescue.org/adopt so you can meet Bear. It doesn't bind you to anything, just allows us to set up a meet & greet. But I know if you meet Bear, you won't want to meet anyone else because he's absolutely perfect.
