Arrival story: Marley was found wandering in Detroit. His owners could not be located so Waggin’ Tails agreed to find him a new forever home.

Approximate age / Weight: 6 years old / 53 pounds.

Personality: Marley is a beautiful boy who deserves a loving family. This cutie is content to lie around the house and sleep most of the day as long as he gets a couple of short (1-mile) walks every day – and lots of petting!

Marley’s gotten along great with his two foster sisters from day one. However, Marley is shy and reserved with new people. He will need a patient family who will give him the time and space he needs to build trust and love.

Marley has great house manners, but he’s just getting starting on basic obedience commands. It took him just 10 minutes to learn “sit” and another 10 minutes to learn “down.” He is particularly treat-motivated and focused on his handler when learning.

Marley has been very good in the car and on trips to the vet. He likes to play with treat toys, balls, and other stuffed toys, but he prefers an audience!
We are pretty sure Marley spent far too much time in a crate or pen when he was younger, leading to severe cage anxiety so he can’t be safely crated. He is fully housebroken and not destructive and can be trusted around the house without confinement.

He also has a tendency to be mouthy (lightly touching hands with his open mouth) and will not be placed in a home with children under 8.

Marley had multiple root canals and extractions from damage done by chewing on a pen or crate. He will need a dental checkup in September but no further work is anticipated as long as he avoids chewing on hard surfaces like metal! He also needs patience as he learns to trust people and explore new environments and situations.

Forever home: Marley is best suited for a quieter household with a mellow doggy buddy to feel happy and secure. No children under 8 and needs a kitty-free home.

Different adoption fees apply for older dogs, small breeds and puppies - $125 for senior dogs, $275 for small breed dogs and $250 for puppies, plus a $50 deposit which is returned upon proof of spay/neuter at six months of age. Our adoption process includes an application, vet reference checks, and a home visit.
We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar for the latest information. Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).
Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only.
Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog!
