Meet Tater

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Tater is unique. You will never see another dog like him. Tater is so sweet he is like a big lump of sugar and becomes a devoted companion to those he loves. He is a gentle soul and gets along with other dogs, cats and children. What he lacks in stature he makes up for in heart.

Tater has come a long way since he was first rescued and has spent most of his life in foster care looking for a forever home and someone who will accept him completely. He is in excellent health but does have dry eye which will always require twice daily eye drops. When he came into the rescue community Tater required skin treatments but with a grain free diet and regular skin care treatments he now has hair! Due to his Xolo parentage he has a very thin coat so his white skin will always need to be monitored and protected from the sun with sunblock or a light shirt. When the weather is cold Tater will need a coat, sweater or warm shirt.

From his Bassett Hound heritage Tater's dwarfism effects his legs causing the front legs to bow and as a result he gets a daily joint supplement pill. His body is full sized so weighing in at 80 pounds Tater cannot become overweight as it would cause painful stress on his joints later in life. He enjoys moderate exercise in a fenced yard or short walks to keep him fit. He loves food so his owner will need to monitor his diet to prevent adding on too many pounds. No table scraps for this guy unless they are low fat and low carb.

Care of Tater's eyes, skin and weight is easy peazy for the enormous return of his complete devotion and funny lovable face with a wildly wagging tail. He is solid and strong but well mannered and walks nicely on the leash. His good manners carry over into the house where he will start pacing if he needs to go outside for toilet duties. He loves to spend evenings on the sofa with his people because he is a 'Couch Tater.' At night he is happy to curl up in a soft dog bed in the bedroom with those he loves. We have never crated him because there was no need, he is a good boy.
