Sherbert Parrot Conure Anchorage, AK

Sherbert is a DNA sexed male Sun Conure. He was hatched on 12/11/07. He was purchased from PETCO after he was weaned and has had the same owner since. He has been to the vet for well bird exams several times and has had bloodwork in the recent past (normal results) and he has no health/behavioral issues (feather plucking etc). His leg band has been removed and he has an AVID microchip. Sherbert has been on Zupreem natural pellets and occasional fresh vegetables and fruit since he was weaned. He enjoys getting slivered almonds for treats. His favorite veggies are zucchini, sweet potato, and corn. Apples are his favorite fruit. He resides in a large cage alone that he has become very comfortable with over the years. He enjoys playing with a variety of toys and he quite actively plays during the day.
Sherbert used to be very friendly and fond of coming out of his cage for attention. Over the past year or so he has become slightly cage aggressive. He will step up on to a stick (sometimes resentfully) but when he is out and away from his cage he is friendly and enjoys perching on shoulders and taking rides around the house. He does have some screaming issues, but as far as Sun Conures go it is not too bad. He has been housed in the same room as a Senegal parrot for most of his life. He does not get along with her. He has not been exposed to other parrots so it is unknown how he will do with a potential playmate.
Sherbert will need someone who is home a lot of the day and is willing to work with him on getting him used to attention like he used to be. He used to enjoy an occasional head scritch but lately he is not fond of being scritched/petted. He is a wonderful bird and would benefit greatly with one on one attention several times a day.
