1/23/14: Leroy is a very friendly Akita/Shepherd mix with sweet brown eyes. He is 3 years old and he weighs 52 lbs. He's very bright and he wants to please his person. He's food motivated and enjoys obedience training. Leroy has been going to obedience classes at The Dogs' Spot in Gladstone. He's doing very well and is currently in Canine Good Citizen class. He walks very nicely on a leash.

Leroy does not like skateboards, bicycles or scooters-- anything of that nature that rushes by. He gets stirred up and has trouble refocusing. We think he probably lived on a chain before he came to us. We've been working on "leave it" and other obedience instruction with Leroy. He'll need further obedience training in his new home, and he'd do best in a home with someone who has some dog experience and who wants to work with him on his behavior. He really is a sweet guy, he just wasn't socialized properly and needs a little extra help!

Leroy has a medium energy level. He is dominant with other dogs and may need to be the only pet in the home. It's possible that he may do okay with a submissive dog. If you have a dog we'd ask you to make an appointment to bring your dog in to meet Leroy to see if they'd get along.

Leroy has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He had heartworms but completed treatment and he is heartworm free now and very healthy. Leroy was originally at the KCK Animal Control shelter. We've had Leroy for a long time and would love to see him find his forever home.

All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
