***PLEASE NOTE: Joe would not do well in a home with small dogs or cats***

UPDATE – READY FOR FOSTER or ADOPTION: Our handsome Joe has had quite the journey from some fairly deplorable conditions (see his story below). His journey of recovery will be complete when he can finally settle into a real home. While “Sir Joseph” does not need a lot of yard space, routine access to an enclosed yard would be desirable. We feel it is especially important that his home be with someone who does not work long hours and is able to give him attention each day. He really wants to serve a purpose and bond with someone. Volunteers have taught him “sit” “down” and he has almost got “paw.” While Joe has some anxiety, that is fairly typical of many German Shepherds, he is a lovable boy who can happily play with a toy or play catch with tennis balls. Since he needs to bond, a single dog household is best, though he has learned to be around certain large calm dogs with no problem (just no small dogs or cats). A family who has previously owned or is familiar with German Shepherds would also be a plus. If you might be a good home for Joe please email Luna’s House at dogs@lunashouse.org or call 410-937-2954

JOE'S STORY:

November 2013 Joe was rescued from horrible conditions where he was found chained to a tree in the freezing cold rain with no food, water or shelter. He was emaciated, with matted filthy fur, and part of his ear was missing from fly bites. At and estimated 5-7 years old it is believed at he may have been in those conditions a long while. Now, after a lot of love (and food) from the volunteers at Luna’s House, “Sir Joseph” is a handsome, ~72 pounds, neutered, up to date on shots, with a gorgeous coat of fur. And despite his history, Joe simply loves to be around people and learn new things. He’s had routine sessions with a trainer so though he occasionally pulls a bit he has learned the concept of leash-walking. While he hates to go potty in his kennel, his his anxiety leads him to drink a lot, so he needs to get out fairly frequently or he does have accidents. Joe has also recently been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD). Just like in people high stress can cause him to have a flare up of symptoms. Those flare ups can be controlled with medication. Our vet has told us that once in a low stress home he may be perfectly fine. He is not good with small dogs but has been with other large non-interactive dogs without problems so may be ok in a home with a dog like that.

If you would like to meet this special dog, please email dogs@lunashouse.org to set up an appointment. Please be patient to hear from us as we are all volunteers and may not be able to respond immediately.

Our volunteers make sure just the right home is chosen for me so they require a home visit. You must live within a 50 mile radius of our location in order to be considered.

The adoption fee is $ 250 and includes vaccines, flea prevention treatment, neuter/spay, and micro chipping. Like us on Facebook!!
