Meet Dory

Hi, my name is Dory! I am a full size, or super-sized as I like to call it, 6 year old English Bulldog. I weigh a whopping 65 pounds but don't worry I'm slowly losing a little bit at a time. They call me a 'special needs' dog but I think all dogs are special in our own ways but here is why they call me special. My last family that I lived with told this nice lady at a vet that they didn't want me anymore and to euthanize me because they were worried I would fall down the stairs. Thankfully, this lady knew just who to call and the awesome people in Omaha, NE at Hands, Hearts and Paws said they wanted me and would take care of me. Can you imagine killing someone just because they couldn't see? That's just silly, I know! See, I had eyes at one point. When I finally made it to my foster mom's house she immediately noticed that the one eye that I did have was severely infected. My other eye had already been removed and one of my ear canals had already been sewn shut awhile back. The very next morning my foster mom brought me to the vet and the next day I had surgery to remove my bad eye. Don't worry I feel much better now and truthfully I couldn't see out of that eye anyway, so it's better that it's gone and I'm no longer in pain from it. My ear was also severely infected but that infection is all gone and I can partially hear out of that ear. It's hard for me to tell where sounds are coming from close up. I am much better at pinpointing where the sound is from a distance. Being a typical bulldog my foster mom says that my new family must have English Bulldog experience. We are a very stubborn breed and require routine cleaning that is best from someone who knows what they are doing. My last family didn't take care of me like my foster family does. Since I don't have eyes I don't get that yucky eye drainage like other bullies do but I still need the folds on my face cleaned on a routine basis. I had allergies really bad too so that made my feet swell and I was always licking them so I sort of grew some extra folds of skin on my front paws. That will never go away and requires routine cleaning also. I am very nice about this and never give my foster mom any trouble when she does this. She also gives me an allergy pill everyday to help with any other itches I may have. I also have what they call Seasonal Flank Alopecia. All this means is on my left and right sides I have some bald spots. My foster mom says that my foster brother, who is also an English Bulldog, had this too when he was my age. There is no medical treatment for it but studies have shown that melatonin helps. Sunlight is what helped my brother so once it starts to warm up a bit I know I will have plenty of opportunity to grow some hair back while catching some nice rays! Speaking of my foster brother I do okay with him. I don't mind other dogs or cats but I get really scared when they walk right up into my face so sometimes I don't know what to do but snap at them. I'm not trying to be mean but just tell them to get out of my space. I would prefer a home with calmer dogs because I enjoy spending the day lounging in my bed and taking quite a few naps. I'm not big on going on walks either mainly because I am very slow and when I don't want to go somewhere I put on my breaks and make my foster mom or dad carry me. My foster home has lots of stairs and I go up and down them just fine. And can you believe it....I have never fallen down them once! Now you can see I am just like any other bulldog. I absolutely adore people and kids and would love nothing more to show you how sweet I am. I have a ton of love to give and would love to share it with you!

Dory, a breeder/owner release, arrived to us in horrible condition. She has no eyes, one working ear (infected currently), and a personality as big as the world. She is happy, sweet, smart……everyone loves her! ENGLISH BULLDOG EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

All of our dogs are current on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, microchipped, fecal tested, heartworm tested, and they are all on heartworm and flea/tick preventative.

The adoption process is an application, a vet reference, a home visit, and a lifetime contract. The requested adoption donation for this dog is $325.

We are willing to adopt out-of-state, contingent on our ability to complete a home visit, but you must travel to Omaha to complete the adoption. We do not transport or ship our dogs.
