Meet Bogart

Bogart
Petite Bassett Griffon Vendeen (PBGV)mix
medium, male, adult

How this happy-go-lucky, sure-to-win-the-next-presidential-election fellow landed behind bars at Memphis Animal Shelter we can only imagine. Seriously, this dog worked the lobby at MAS that was full of people of every age as well as dogs as if he were running for elected office. He would have kissed babies had they been available. Everyone was charmed by Bogart's attention.

Named for Humphrey Bogart, movie star legend, because of his scruffy good looks, Bogart has a beautiful gold and white scruffy coat that only adds to his charm. Mislabeled a lhasa at MAS, it was readily apparent that he resembles a PBGV to his foster mom who came to pick him up. This breed is a French sporting dog that is known for it's amiable, happy nature. Once he had his spa treatment, his soft coat shone and is incredibly luxurious to touch. PLEASE NOTE: a representative from a pbgv organization disputes this label on Bogart. We are not breed experts, we are purveyors of the scruffy mixed breed good looks!

Bogart is a stocky boy...weighing around 35 lbs, but standing only about 14 inches high. He's about 36 inches long. Bogart has some hair loss due to flea allergy on his back, because it is clear from the condition his coat was in that he'd been fending for himself for a while.

Bogart is probably around 3 years old. He is house trained and crates readily when his foster mom is ready to head to work or to bed at night. He loves a squeaky toy and enjoys playing with the other dogs in his foster home.

If you are seeking a companion that is sturdy, happy, and has a perfectly balanced temperament, look no further than Bogart. He is neutered, up to date on his vaccines, heartworm negative and on preventives for fleas and heartworm.

Bogart's best home requires a fenced yard, a solid history of excellent vet care for previous/current pets and where he will be cherished as a family member. Bogart's adoption fee is $200.

AN ADOPTION FEE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS PET.If you are interested in adopting, have a look at our adoption website, read the online adoption agreement, complete the online adoption application, and submit it. We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
