Valentino Chihuahua & Dachshund Mix Lacona, NY

5/4/14 UPDATE Well Valentino is turning a year old and still waiting for that special someone to give him a permanent home. He is definitely a work in progress. His foster mom has spoken to a trainer to see what could be done to help Valentino since he is still quite shy. The recommendations are being followed and Valentino is learning the sit command. If you are looking for a dog that needs some extra TLC, then maybe Valentino is for you. Please complete an adoption application today so that Valentino can finally find a home of his own.
3/7/14: Valentino is currently 10 months old and has been in foster care since August of last year (7 months!). He is a sweet boy that has seen many family holidays come and go without finding a home to call his own. He had a rough start in life, coming from a local puppy mill, underweight and afraid. At home, he enjoys playing with the other dogs in the house and can go, go, go if you let him. He likes quiet cuddle time too and chewing on his chew bones and toys. When first meeting someone he is shy.... but we are sure once home and given the attention, he will be a faithful and lifelong best friend to some lucky person/family. We are still working on his housebreaking, his foster mom is gone 14 hours a day so getting him on a consistent schedule has been challenging. He wants so desperately to be loved and fussed over, we are sure that he will be very receptive to training if given the chance. This special boy is really a lost soul waiting for a family to love and care for him. No puppy deserves to grow up in foster care. 11/15/13: Valentino is adjusting well to his sister being gone. He is making friends with the other dogs in the foster home and he is turning into quite a special little boy. When first meeting new people, he just likes cuddling and is a bit shy. He does the typical "chihuahua shiver" and is on his best behavior despite being a little scared. In the house, it is a different story. He loves to play, he loves his nylabone, his treats, the other dogs, stuffed toys and is VERY interested in the cats (or as he likes to think of them, the chasing entertainment). LIttle Valentino is growing up in foster care, he wants nothing more than a home to call his own, especially with the holidays approaching...maybe yours?
9/25/13  UPDATE Valentino always has a plan ...play, play, play and chase whatever is crawling around the house, including cats, dogs and kittens of all sizes.  He is currently 7# and will probably be approximately 15# when full grown.  If you are looking for a small dog but one with a lot of energy then Valentino maybe for you.  Fill out an application today.
9/18/13: Valentino is a happy, bouncy boy that would benefit from having a family to call his own.  He is very active and would do well with an active family that would be willing to throw a ball for him, a few dozen times lol  Don't let this little cutie pass you by!  He is completely vetted now and all ready to go!
8/29/13:  All Creatures was contacted yesterday by a friend of the rescue who has a neighbor running a local puppy mill. With nearly a dozen breeding dogs and a severe flea infestation in the house, the "breeder" contacted her to see if she wanted to buy one of his puppies. Due to overcrowding and escalating food bills, the person signed over an adult female chihuahua "Valentine" and her two 14 week old chihuahua mix puppies. We are calling the babies Victoria and Valentino. They will spend the next few days adjusting to life outside the breeding facility. Soon they will be vaccinated and treated for intestinal parasites before getting spayed and neutered when healthy enough in the next few weeks. Until they are ready to go, we will be accepting adoption applications from interested families. Valentino (larger puppy) is approximately 14 weeks old at this time.  He is about 7# at this time and will most likely be 15-20# full grown.  We are not sure what other breed he is mixed with but his body is long and low to the ground so we believe his dad may have been a dachshund.  He is an outgoing puppy and adjusting well to the other dogs and cats in his foster home. We are recommending he go to a home without children under 10 years old since broken bones are common in chihuahuas if handled too roughly.  We are currently accepting adoption applications on Victoria and Valentino.
