Meet Buster Beans. When we met Buster, he was in absolutely devastating shape - he had an untreated case of Demodex (noncontagious, but painful) mange that had left his skin scabbed and raw, and he could barely open his eyes. Even the smallest of movements caused him great pain, so there he laid, still, scared, and shutdown, on the cold floor of one of the city's highest-kill shelters. 


Enter a shelter volunteer who became Buster's guardian angel. She laid eyes on him and knew she had to help. She entered his kennel and sat down on the floor near him, so as not to overwhelm him. Much to her surprise and joy, this baby slowly, painfully climbed up out of the little ball he was curled into, and gently laid his body into her lap. She held him, and suddenly she saw his little tail wagging...this broken boy finally had hope, and he became her mission.


She photographed him and created a Facebook page for him, knowing that the disturbing and heartbreaking images would likely scare people away. Quite the opposite. A network of literally hundreds of people from all over the country began rallying for this baby boy...offering to foster, wanting to adopt from far, help with his medical care. And that is how he came to us. That dear volunteer called us and told us his story, and we knew he was ours to save.


This 11 month old, 15 pound Boston Terrier mix has absolutely transformed. He epitomizes resilience and forgiveness, and it has been a true joy to observe him as he heals, both physically and emotionally.


His skin looks better than ever, and will be back to 100% in no time. His personality is absolutely joyful - he is finally enjoying the puppyhood he never had. A little shy at first, once he gets to know you he never forgets you, and greets all of his humans with endless kisses and what feel like almost human hugs. He is great with other dogs, and is currently being fostered with a senior Rhodesian Ridgeback who has become his best buddy. He is great with kids, and absolutely adores his people.


He loves to play and walk, and once he tires himself out all he wants to do is cuddle. Buster Beans is not a barker, and is completely crate trained, and almost house trained. He sleeps through the night without a peep, and is so happy to greet the morning when it comes!
