Amelia-Pending Chihuahua & Rat Terrier Mix Glastonbury, CT

 

 

In late April, a very pregnant Rat Terrier mix was brought into a busy public pound in Louisiana as a stray.  No owners came to claim her and she looked like she was going to give birth any minute.  This shelter has no room for nursing moms nor are people looking to adopt pregnant dogs or a mom with newborns.  The sweet mom to be was scheduled for euthanasia.  Thankfully she was instead rescued by The Chi Society friend PAWS of NE LA!  She was moved to a loving foster home and delivered 6 healthy puppies on May 7th.  Angel has been an excellent mother and both her and her pups are thriving in foster care. 

 

Amelia is a petite girl with awesome markings.  She has a cluster of tiny polka dots on her left side in addition to big black and white spots all over.  We are not sure what Dad was but the pups should be small.  Mom Angel is 10#.  Amelia is a dainty thing but she is the fastest pup in her litter and loves to run and romp!  She is brave and is very smart.  Her face and eyes are very expressive.  When she is thinking extra hard about something, her little forehead wrinkles up.  She was weaned at 8 weeks of age and is still getting lots of socialization from her mom, the resident dogs in her foster home and even horses, goats and barn cats.  She definitely cannot hold it through the night at this young age so adopters should be ready for potty training, teething and all the fun and mischief that a young pup brings to a home.  The pups do well with potty training when taken outside frequently and will use puppy pads at night or when their foster mom is at work.  They sleep together in a large crate so once adopted they will need some time to adjust to sleeping alone.  Check the pups out in action here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es7Mcrn3c3U and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1KntxHyWPE.  You may have to copy/paste the links in your browser. 

 

This is a happy, playful, well-adjusted little family!
