Hefty is a playful year and a half old Anatolian Shepherd Mix who’s just a ball of energy and wants to go! go! go! Ready to take on the world, Hefty appreciates accompanying you on a walk to savor the weather. He’s an explorer and is curious of the world around him. The kinda pup who has no trouble keeping up and would love to hike with you from sunrise to sunset. Whether you are going to the mountains, the dog park or to get an ice cream cup on a hot summer’s day he’s ready to hope in the car and go with you! Hefty would consider himself one lucky pup to find someone who will give him the active lifestyle he longs to have.

Hefty is a bit of a talker and can chat up a storm with you. Telling you all about his day and; wanting to hear about yours too. Greeting you with a smile and a wagging tail after a long day surly will make you feel what love is all about. Loyal and devoted are among Hefty’s finest qualities.

Hefty is housebroken, crate trained and is familiar with a few of his basic commands such as sit, paw and down. He longs to take classes in basic manners, advanced obedience, Good Canine Certification and maybe even an agility class or two. What better way to work towards a strong bond with your best friend then some obedience training which will enhance the great qualities Hefty already has. The more you are willing to teach him the more he wants to learn. Treats will steal his heart which makes him an excellent student! He’s a strong boy and a bit of a jumper but once he has been taught these are not acceptable behaviors they will disappear over time.

Hefty is hoping to find an active family maybe with kids over 16 only because of his size and playfulness. He’s also amazing with other dogs and will play until the sun goes down. Hefty would thrive in a home with another dog. He extremely respectful and knows when to withdraw by being mindful of the body language of the other pup. Cats unfortunately are out of Hefty’s realm. He doesn’t understand them and prefers to live life without them. Hefty is hoping you will be his hero and rescue him from the world he knows. Note: As with all of our dogs, we strongly recommend obedience classes for new owner and dog to create a life-long bond with the adopted dog based on trust, respect and rewarding training experiences. We are offering dog training classes through FMAS Wagtime Dog Training. You can check out more information at www.fmaswagtime.com. We can help you train practical skills you use every day with positive reinforcement training. Our shelter dogs are strays and we observe and assess their behavior at the shelter which may be somewhat different in a home environment. In addition dogs adopted from the Manchester Animal Shelter are spayed/neutered, microchipped and have received their Rabies and distemper vaccinations as well as other necessary medical care such as flea treatment. All dogs are also heartworm tested. Some prudent care such as heartworm medication is not provided at the shelter and should be taken care of at the earliest convenience upon adoption.
