Pedro Pit Bull Terrier & Boxer Mix Shelbyville, IN

Pedro (named by the Jeanette boys who volunteer at the shelter) is a one-year-old Pit bull/Boxer mix that was brought into the shelter on Monday, June 3rd as a stray from the 700 block of West McKay Road in Shelbyville.  It was one of those "strays" where I feel like I wasn't getting the entire story...which I hate.  Since I recognized the couple because they had adopted a cat earlier, I asked them how the cat was doing.  I think that surprised them a bit and they then did confirm they adopted a sweet cat from our shelter.  They weren't real chatty after that but they did report when asked that they did not own the dog.  (Owned dogs get put up for adoption that day, strays have to wait 72 hours.  If we don't have to wait to adopt a dog, it just helps the pet.)  We have had no one call looking for this handsome dog so he is available for adoption.  According to the couple that found him, they said they actually found him the day before bringing him into the shelter, and that he is housebroken and a great dog.  They said they would have kept him but they can't own dogs where they live.  He was wearing a blue collar with no tags or microchip to identify the person that did him wrong.  Because let's face it...someone did him wrong or he wouldn't be here as a stray and have to learn a new name.  Back to Pedro...He has received his Bordetella and annual booster vaccination, wormer and tested negative for heartworm (thanks to the kindness of Vet Tech).  He was a hit at the Colour Palette off-site adoption on Saturday, June 8th, but he did not find his forever home.  He will also be featured in the Shelbyville News as pet of the week on Thursday, June 13th.  If THAT doesn't get him adopted, he will travel to Kroger for the fourth annual Car, Bike and Truck Show.  That is our biggest fundraiser of the season and Kroger treats us sooooooooo well.
