Meet Chance

Chance is a sweet 6.5 year old, 15 lb min pin who was found as a stray in central MA.  Chance is an incredibly sweet dog who would do just fine in a home with other dogs, cats and/or kids.  Chance does great in a crate and he is also housetrained.

Chance's bloodwork shows that he is diabetic but we have started him on insulin and he seems to be doing well.  His untreated diabetes caused  him to go blind as well.  He has a good amount of energy and also enjoys lying in the sun.  Chance loves to go for walks and he quickly learns stairs.  When his foster mom lets him out of his crate, he runs right to the door, goes over the tiny step up of the threshold and down the one step onto the landing.  Then, he does the four steps out into the yard and does his business right away.  Chance enjoys attention and he will head butt your hand or head (whatever is closest) when he wants more attention than what you are giving him.  He's pretty content though to just hang out with his people.  He enjoys going for rides in the car and doesn't let his blindness slow him down.

The gentleman who "found" Chance was crying when he handed him over so we suspect he was his dog who he could not care for.  When Chance was taken in by animal control, he was thin, had runny bloody stool and had horrible dry, crusty eyes.  He has severe dry eye but he lets his foster mom put eye meds in with no issue at all - they are so easy to do that even a child could do it.  Chance is on four units of insulin twice a day.  We have gotten into a good routine with the insulin so he doesn't even mind the tiny prick for the most part.  The needles are so tiny and when given while he is eating a wet/dry food mixture he doesn't even pay any attention to the shot.  Even someone with no experience giving shots can easily give Chance his meds.  He does not require someone experienced with diabetes or needles.

Chance still has a lot of life left in him and he deserves a home of his own who will love him despite his medical issues.
