Meet Bernice

Bernice is getting her second chance at life.  She was a stray at the pound and her owners never came to look for her.  Considering the condition she was in, it didn't seem like they had paid much attention to her anyway.  Her nails were horribly long, she had a horrible ear infection, she has horrible teeth, she has a mass in her abdomen, and after going into foster care and seeing how she struggles to go potty, a vet determined that her vagina is full of tumors. Fortunately for Bernice, the tumors are benign so she will be having surgery May 18th to spay her and remove the tumors as well as the mass.  She will also be given a dental cleaning and any bad teeth removed.

Once we remove the tumors we are hopeful that Bernice will no longer feel the need to go potty frequently.  She knows to go to the door so we are optimistic that she'll be housebroken after she heals.

Bernice enjoys sleeping in a crate and happily goes in there when necessary.  She has bald spots on her hind legs and  her fur is stained yellow so it seems likely that she has spent a lot of time laying on dirty bedding in a crate.  Perhaps her former owners just kept her caged because she urinated frequently rather than take her to a vet to find out why.  She is a very happy girl and tells us every day how grateful she is to be in our home with clean bedding, good food, and nice beagle friends to hang out with.

Bernice isn't available for adoption until after she heals from her surgery but anyone interested in her can contact her foster home for information. Please send an email to BEAGMOM1@yahoo.com.  We don't know Bernice's true age but she's an older gal, probably  at least 10 years old.  Her energy level right now is low but that very well may be because she feels miserable.  In just the last 2 weeks that we've gotten her ear infection cleared up, she's become much more lively and happy.  She just might jump for joy and scream from the rooftops when the tumors are gone!  Stay tuned for updates!

Donations to help pay for Bernice's surgery are very much appreciated.
