Meet Chichi

Say hello to Chichi, a 7 pound Chihuahua that was pulled from Miami-Dade Animal Shelter after being owner surrendered at the age of 15. Chichi was pulled by A.D.O.P.T. because she was to be euthanized for her extreme fearfulness in the shelter. However, her entire medical situation was not made clear. After pulling Chichi, it was apparent that she needed urgent medical attention to remove a 1 lb cancerous mammary tumor. Since Chichi was pulled, she has had this tumor successfully removed, been spayed, had her teeth cleaned and 5 teeth extracted. She is now recovering from her spay surgery and ready for her forever home!
Chichi is a lovable girl who wants just to hang around you. A quiet dog, she hardly ever barks. When she sees the one she loves, she will gently lay her head in your lap to be softly petted. In fact, she could spend all day curled up in a little ball sleeping next to you. That is her favorite place to be.
Chichi is friendly to everyone she meets; she is not what I would deem shy, but she may not run up to every new person either. Affectionate, she will lavish you with kisses as you pet her and will follow you around the house all day smiling.
Chichi isn't an endless bundle of energy. At the ripe ol' age of 15, she does have bursts of energy where she will bounce around and play, but she is mostly calm and quiet. Chichi does well with the other dogs in her foster home, but she isn't playful or what I would call "buddies" with any of them. She gives them their space, and they give her space as well. She is not uncomfortable around them, but doesn't play or rough house. She also thinks nothing of walking up to one of the other dog's food bowls (no matter how big the dog) to steal a bite or two. Since Chichi is older and a quiet dog, we feel she would do best in a home with no dogs or dog that is tolerant and not pushy so Chichi will be allowed her space and won't be stressed. She has not been tested with cats and will NOT be adopted to a home with small children.
Chichi walks well on a leash but has not been trained in obedience. Chichi warms up rather quickly and with time and with gentle handling she will allow you to pick her up, hold her, and give her medicine. She acts very much like a dog that was handled very roughly before and feels like she must protect herself from being hurt during those types of activities. So time, reassurance, and patience are key to her trusting you to handle her with care. She also appears to be pee pad trained as she will not wait to go outside, but will find a small doormat to use. We have been working on this and did make quite a bit of progress before she was spayed . . . but it seems with the soreness the tendency to use a "pad" has returned. So, it is suggested that her new home be ok with the use of pee pads to help with this. Since her surgery, she has been using the pads that we purchased with consistency.

Chichi is used to sleeping on the human bed, usually curled up next to her human's pillow, but she will also sleep well in a crate without problem. Chichi is available for adoption through A.D.O.P.T. for $75. Please contact us if you are interested in giving her the perfect home so that we can provide you with an application.
