This is BIGGIE, he is a 1 year old goofy sweetheart that is looking for his forever home. Even though he may not look like your typical Shepherd, he is a purebred 90lbs black German Shepherd. Biggie is currently in foster and he spends his days with his two foster brothers, lab mixes that are 2 years old and 3 months old. His favorite thing to do is swim which he does every day to help relieve stress on his joints. He also plays tag with his foster brothers and just lounges around most days. He has been to many large gatherings where there are many adults, children, and tons of dogs. He tends to be a little wary of new dogs at first but then warms right up and play for hours with dogs of all shapes and sizes. He has made many canine friends but when restrained around other dogs he will bark, so he currently would not enjoy going to dog parks. Biggie knows all his basic commands, including walking wonderfully on a leash and he is currently working on his mild resource guarding issues with toys and drinking water. Since he has become more comfortable in his foster home and with positive reinforcement training and preventative measures these issues have been very well managed. He gets along fine with cats as long as the cats are “dog savvy”. Biggie can stay home in a kennel or in an enclosed room during the day. Biggie has some very common large breed GSD medical issues. He has had X-rays and has signs of growing pains (Panosteitis) which will require pain and/or anti inflammatory medication until it subsides. It is common in fast growing large breed dogs and is considered a growth issue. He has also been diagnosed with some degree of Hip Dysplasia, although he is a little too young to tell if he will have issues with this in the future as many dogs that are growing improve and some do not. Biggie should be kept on joint supplements and quality food to help him be the best he can be. Biggie is a gentle giant that is looking for his forever home! We are seeking a home that has a canine interactive lifestyle and has experience to be there for him.
