Bio: Sam is about 4 years old and approx 60#. Has $50 sponsorship for rescue!

Update from foster 8/27: Very nice dog. Had HW prevention on 8/26 and frontline on 8/27. Loves walks on a flexi-lead. He walks funny though. (Note "vetting history" section below re past injuries).  Such a sweet dog. He has a twirly tail, does full circles when he wags.

Moved to foster 8/26. Update from foster: Just pulled this boy from the kennel to foster. No one told us Sam had developed a pretty bad skin condition. I brought him home and gave him a good scrubbing bath with Pyoben. LOADS of hair came out. It looks sort of fungal, could be kennel rot from laying on concrete. Gave him his HW prevention. Will do a flea treatment with frontline spray tomorrow once he is good and dry. He is settled in Roxie's pen. I had scrubbed the dog house and kuranda yesterday and put fresh cedar in pen for him. Right after his bath he met Jackson with no issues, just lots of tail wags. He then met Betsy Loo and of course he loved her. He met Dini and Dini growled at him so Sam just turned away. Sally does NOT like Sam. She growled and growled and even followed us to growl at him some more. Sam kept walking faster to get away from that mean little old lady. First impression...Sam is a very sweet big boy that has a lot of love to give. Seems fine with other dogs and non-confrontational.

Vetting History: Sam was hit by a car as a puppy. I believe he received pins and then maybe he was hit again and taken to Dr. Hume in Lexington. I can't remember all the details, but I think he's had broken pelvis and femur. (We are going through old medical records trying to verify exactly what injuries he sustained back then and what medical treatment was done. If we can find it, we'll update his listing.)

Update: VET RECORDS:

Sam vetting history: Vaccination certificate & neuter certificate, both dated 12/15/2009. 4/8/10 hit by car: radiation, emergency fee, IV, anesthesia, radiograph, cefezolin, torbugesic injection, hospitalization, cephalexin capsules & Deramaxx

Additional vetting history (different vet): 10/5/10 hit by car/vet notes: fracture of left femoral head, frx of right (unreadable word). Fractures 3 weeks old. Therapy: Due to chronicity of fracture repair of the femoral head fracture was thought to be unlikely. A femoral head ostechemy(sp?) was performed on the left femur. The dog was walking on the right leg. Under anesthesia fracture fragments of the (unreadble?) fracture where unable to be moved and the rectum was not compromised. Therefore the fracture was treated conservatively. Diagnosis: Prognosis is good.

4/22: We took in a former STAR dog today. Family divorced and Sam ended up taking residence at a farm about a mile away. This lady has a mini-farm with lots of chickens, goats, pig, ducks 10 dogs, and numerous cats. He has been there for several months without incident. However last night he attacked their older cat. She asked me to please pick Sam back up this morning. He is fully vetted and now at kennel. She said he left her chickens alone after she scolded him a couple times, which is surprising since he is a hound mix. Sam's now had 3 owners and needs someone who can commit to him for a lifetime.

Please note: In most cases, the breed mix is our best guess based on the size/appearance of the dog. Most of the dogs we get are strays so their history is unknown.

Please sponsor me! Full sponsorship is $120 per dog. Partial sponsorships accepted and appreciated. PayPal as gift to STAR_donations@yahoo.com and include comment: sponsor money for [insert dog's name you wish to sponsor]. Sponsoring saves lives!

Dogs in the Rowan County K-9 Shelter receive their first dhppl vaccination (parvo/distemper) upon arrival at the pound. Rabies vaccine and spay/neuter surgery can be done for the $50 adoption fee. Please note rabies vaccine and surgeries are NOT done on site and dogs must be adopted before they receive rabies vaccine or surgery. We currently do not have the ability to cat test the pound dogs.
