OZZIE (Dog friendly) Domestic Short Hair San Pedro, CA

Ozzie was rescued in 2012 by the KD team and unfortunately was found to be positive for FIV while receiving his basic tests and vetting. While this feline disease is not fatal and can only be transmitted through deep bite wounds and sexual contact (Ozzie's neutered so that rules out one of those), his FIV status technically make him a special needs kitty.

People often confuse FIV with feline leukemia, or FeLV - which is a fatal feline disease. FIV is like HIV in humans and, with proper care and diet, can be managed beautifully so that FIV kitties can live just as long as any other healthy kitty - in some cases we know of, up to 20 years! - with next to no health issues or complications. It is not a death sentence by any means and it is a very low level transmitted disease. It is not at all contagious to dogs or humans though. It is only transferable to other cats through deep bite or scratch wounds and sexual activity. Ozzie is a very healthy FIV + kitty. On occasion Ozzie does experience a bit of trouble with his eyes. This is easily treated with a round of eye drops and a shot of antibiotics. It doesn't happen often though. It starts out as his eyes getting a bit drippy...particularly his left eye. If this happens and doesn't go away then it will need to be treated. This big boy is extremely loving and ready for his forever family- a family he can call his own and give all his affections to. He's an absolute love bug and so very wonderful with people... but he's a little territorial when it comes to other cats. Clearly, as you can see, he is a very big, beautiful boy and he's got a personality to match... and a little bit of an ego around the same size, too. He wants to rule the yard and can, at times, be a bit bossy with the others. Lisa, Ozzie's foster mommy, loves him dearly and really doesn't want to part with him until his forever home is found but she does have other kitties to consider and really feels Ozzie would do much better if he were able to be someone's one and only.
