Meet Madeline

Madeline is a 7-8 month old mixed breed puppy (maybe a corso?) that Pick Your Paw Rescue saved from NYC's Manhattan ACC. She had been abandoned in a yard in the Bronx, in 30 degree weather. Madeline was so frightened in the shelter. So very frightened, that EVERY picture of her was in a lap snuggling.
Darling? Well, yes she is, but in reality, Madeline was too scared to walk.
She was looked after in the shelter by some loving volunteers who saw her sweet face, her love of children, her happiness to be by other dogs. And those volunteers cared for her there, and cared for her future by advocating for her rescue. Little Madeline arrived in NJ, too quiet, too shut down, shaking and runny nosed. We gave her time to settle in, but then, she began to cough. And then she stopped eating.
Two days after transport Madeline was diagnosed with pneumonia. She had lost 6 pounds in a week, but the ACC hadn't even noticed. They had subjected her to anesthesia and surgery and then sent her on her way.

Madeline is now recovering from her pneumonia.  She has spent weeks learning it is safe to walk, to play, to be SILLY.  She is learning about life all over again, but she struggles with fears no puppy should have.  Madeline has learned to play.  She loves kids, people and the other dogs in her foster home.  She is sweet and snugly beyond words.  She has learned to enjoy wearing her lavender harness and being outside and on a leash.  MANY fears have been conquered!! It was a huge triumph today when a plastic bag blew by in the wind and rather than cowering, Madeline pounced it like a puppy should!  Madeline is mastering house breaking and is happily crate trained.  She loves her green monkey and a small pink mitten that is her best treasure ("stolen" from my daughter).  Still, there is work to be done.  Walks off our property are still terrifying. She is sure strangers on our walks will hurt her, cars are intolerably terrifying.  It grieves me to imagine what she endured alone on the streets to have such fears.

But she is growing into her healthy puppy hood in leaps and bounds.  Every bit of play is a victory, every carefree movement a triumph.
Madeline is fully recovered from her pneumonia and ready for her forever home.
