We are looking for a rescue who can keep these two together and help Scarlett gain some confidence. The video is much better than the photos!

2/27 update: Photos 1 & 2 are new, photo 3 was taken on intake.  Update from Lynn, who found them emaciated on 1-19, then visited them on 2/26 to take photos and video: I really enjoyed spending some time yesterday with Scarlett and Rhett. They looked wonderful.  I feel like they are probably a bonded pair. I suppose one only knows for sure if they are separated? They seem to always be side by side in everything, and Scarlett seems to get confidence from being with Rhett. Scarlett and Rhett were emaciated when they were first found, but are now in great shape! Both of them are shy at first, but it doesn't take Rhett long to warm up. He really enjoys attention and being petted. He also seems to be perpetually happy and smiling. He is a very handsome, happy boy. Scarlett seems to draw strength and security from watching and being with Rhett. With strangers, she is at first very afraid of any contact. After watching Rhett get attention and being near him, Scarlett found petting and attention to be very enjoyable, and she began to actually seek more attention. The transformation was amazing, and very nice to see. She is a beautiful girl, and is very sweet and sensitive. After some time sitting with them and petting them both, they were both up smiling and wagging their tails! Scarlett and Rhett are beautiful dogs who will bring joy to whoever gets them. We don't know their whole story, but they are an inspiration in how they made it to this point in their lives side by side. All they need now is a forever home where they will never have to worry about being hungry or unloved again.

1/28 update: They already put on enough weight to be considered good condition. Waiting to get a kennel open so they can leave the clinic. They get new weights today and will try get some new pics. I think Dr K wants a new blood chem pulled on Scarlettt to see if it has improved. Weights: Sunday January 20th for Scarlet 29.4 lbs and today she weighs 37.4 has gained 8 lbs in 7 days! Rhett was 36 lbs and today was 43.6 lbs, gained 7.6lbs! Third photo is Scarlett on 1/28.

1/28 Temperament Info: (Sounds like these two were on their own for awhile.) She was actually VERY fearful the first couple days, would cower in back of cage and snap when you would reach in, but has stopped that behavior since. They are both still shy around the human touch but are coming around. They are fine with the clinic cat. They will make nice dogs for someone.

1/23 update: Rhett & Scarlett are too malnourished to have surgeries yet. Steff told me that neither dog are crate trained, that they potty where they are and walk in it, and that they are still drinking water excessively. She said they are in no shape to leave the clinic anytime soon.  They are eating well, though, and each has put on about 4-5 lbs already.

Update from Lynn: Scarlet and Rhett rode like they had been in a vehicle before. I played Canine Lullabies for them on the way over. Attaching some photos of them after they arrived at the clinic. They seem to be happy to be with people again. :) You can tell by looking at them how sweet they are.

Update from vet staff 1/20: They had to be hospitalized due to dehydration, Scarlett has some questionable blood work, but Dr. K said it could be due to the severe emaciation and intestinal parasites which both were severely infested with along with fleas. Rhett's blood work came back perfect. They have been catheterized and are on I.V. fluid therapy and have been put on oral vitamin supplements. Heartworm test were both negative. We have dewormed, given Revolution, initial rabies.

So far both dogs seem to be very good around my dog and clinic cat, are very sweet, loving and appreciative of the attention. They have not attempted to bite due to fear or any other reasons and took being stuck like a champ. Very docile and very loving babies.

1/20: Very emaciated and will need medical assessment and a special dietary schedule, so taken to vet for emergency care. Please help us cover this cost!  This is a starting estimate.  The chip in total may be adjusted upward as we ascertain her medical & boarding needs.

Bio 1/19: Saw these two dogs going down the road past the Pound. When I left, they hadn't gone too far, and when I slowed down, they seemed friendly. Stopped and was able to pet them and talk to them. Also saw how skinny they were. I walked back to the Pound with them following me. Put them in a pen and gave them food and water. Needless to say they were very hungry and immediately ate. Hoping they will go inside and get some rest on the dog bed. They are both friendly, but cautious. Had no problem getting them to follow me back to the Pound. They enjoy being petted. Struggled a little when I picked them up to carry them in the Pound, but they were scared.

Dogs in the Rowan County K-9 Shelter receive their first dhppl vaccination (parvo/distemper) upon arrival at the pound. Rabies vaccine and spay/neuter surgery can be done for the $50 adoption fee. Please note rabies vaccine and surgeries are NOT done on site and dogs must be adopted before they receive rabies vaccine or surgery. We currently do not have the ability to cat test the pound dogs.
