Maggie Shih Tzu & Yorkshire Terrier Mix Etobicoke, ON

 

 Maggie is a seven-year-old Shih Tzu/Yorkshire Terrier mix. She has large, round dark eyes, a button nose and an impish expression that says, “Let’s play.” Choose from among her large collection of toys -- squeaky toys are her favourites -- and this senior dog will play tug-of-war and fetch with all the youthful energy and enthusiasm of a puppy.

 A born snuggler, sweet Maggie thrives on soft belly rubs, gentle ear scratches and tender cuddles. Easy to feed, with a robust appetite, she also loves her treats. She also enjoys her own company and space, and is happily secure when left home alone.

Easily stressed by the unfamiliar, she requires time, patience and reassurance in dealing with new people and new situations. When meeting someone for the first time, she avoids direct eye contact, but warms up as soon as she’s grown more comfortable. If she’s nervous or uncertain, her alert is a growl so that her stress level doesn’t escalate. 

Fearful of being dropped, she dreads being picked up without warning. She gets along well with adults once they’ve gained her trust, but she’s uneasy around children. She also gets along with other dogs and cats.

Her preferred forever home will be one of kindness and understanding, where she can conquer the last of her fears and spend her life in loving, balanced calm.
