Why am I with a rescue group? Jefferson's owner became ill and could no longer care for him and his 4 buddies.

Jefferson is such a sweetheart who is finally beginning to blossom, after almost a year at Carolina Poodle Rescue. Though he cannot speak, his actions say a lot about his past. Jefferson was kept outside in a pen for all of his life, with his 4 other buddies. His owner’s did not spend much time with him, he is very unsure of humans, and afraid of what we “might” do. Slowly but surely, Jefferson is learning to trust, and is loving every second of it!


We believe that Jefferson is as social as he is going to get here with us. He spent 2 months in a foster home, and made great progress. He is for the most part house trained, completely crate trained, and walks wonderfully on a leash with someone he trusts. He gets along great with all other dogs and with cats.

An ideal home for Jefferson will be with someone who stays home a lot, and who has a lot of patience.

How I act when I first meet new people: Afraid

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
