Some mysteries are never solved. This is likely to be one of them. A Purebreds foster mom was talking a late afternoon walk with her mother down their country road. . It was one of those super cold December days when the sun sets at 4:30. Hearing a little "mew" they looked around and found these two gorgeous red tabby kittens. Of course they scooped them up and brought them home. The kittens were friendly and not super thin so they felt they had not been there more than a day or two. Busy, high traffic road. While setting them up for the night they noticed the boy kitten was missing a right rear leg. "Oh my" her mom said "Look!"  Then they sort of entered the twilight zone as they saw that the other kitten also was missing her right rear leg. They were identical tripod kittens. No wounds, no blood, no scabs. Just no right rear legs. When they went to the vet to be spay neutered the vet examined them and said" No, it is not a birth defect. Something happened to their legs at an early age." Cats do very well on three legs and even better when the missing leg is a rear leg.

So there is the mystery. I have no idea how this came about. And never will, I guess, though of course it drives me nuts not to know. . A clue may be that they do not like dogs at all. But maybe they were just fearful for other reasons. They each get along on their three legs very well and are happy loving, playful kittens

You can see they are super adorable. Along with much of the world, I am a big lover of red tabby Maine Coon mixes. The sweet loving nature of the red tabbies is well known. I know there is a family out there who will take in this pair and enjoy them so much. They need a home without dogs.

I have just gotten them from the original foster mom and don't have new photos yet. More info soon. (it is 1/ 8/ 13)

They eat wet and dry food and are litterbox perfect. Some kind hearted family will love these beautiful Tripod Twins
