Bandi Parrot Pionus Brooklyn, NY

Bandi is a Scaly-headed Pionus Parrot who is approx 6 1/2 years old; DNA sexed Male. He came in as a patient with a sinus problem and the owner was going to euthanize because she couldn't afford his treatment. He has been with us a few years now. He is a beautiful purple and green bird who loves to be talked to. In the right home with the proper socialization and care, Bandi will make a wonderful loving pet. He is currently on Harrison's Lifetime Coarse diet, and It is crucial that his new owner continue with this diet exclusively given the fact that his previous diet was so poor. Supplementing his diet with occasional healthy produce from his native habitat is also important. He should be taken to an experienced avian vet at least yearly to monitor his health. Non-smoking households only due to his previous health issues. These birds are LOUD and messy, but beautiful and intelligent. They need educational toys and continued training and human socialization. They are loving birds when properly trained and socialized but caution should be used until a bond is made as they can inflict serious bites! Please do your homework before considering one of these birds, they end up in shelters in large numbers because people do not research how involved their care is.
