2/8 update from foster: Joseph is one of the sweetest dogs we have met! He loves our dogs & our cats. He is also submissive to the other dogs. He wants someone to snuggle with & is not picky who. He has not had any accidents & eagerly goes outside to potty as soon as the door opens. He also listens well & comes back in when called. He is getting around great & is using the few steps to go in & out just fine. He uses doggy steps to get onto the couch, but is able to get in the recliner by himself. He is using his back leg more & more. He is a chewer & has to be watched that he does not get a hold of shoes, but that is typical for his age. He also listens when you tell him "no" to chewing on the shoes. He does good on leash, but is not too happy when he has to turn around after his short walks. He wants to keep walking with the other dogs, but we are waiting awhile before we take him on really long walks. He went to the vet & had his sutures removed from his neuter surgery & did great there. He is an all around wonderful dog.

2/4: Joseph has moved to a new foster home.  His injuries are healing nicely and he's up and moving around now.  Needs to rebuild some muscle in his back legs. Update from new foster: I will give him a few days to settle before I update bio. So far he is doing GREAT with the other dogs & the cats; no accidents in the house yet; loves his toys :)

1/30: Losing foster home due to change in family's situation.  Needs new foster or rescue ASAP!

1/23 update: Joseph is recovering from being hit by a car on Christmas Eve. Because his pelvis was broken in a couple places, and two pins were placed in his femur, he initially had to be carried in and out of the house to use the bathroom as he could not support himself to walk. Now he is feeling much better and if you don’t restrain him on a leash, he will try to take off running with the other dogs. He is a submissive doggie and has no issues with any of the other dogs he shares a foster home with. Often he will curl up next to beagle buddy Monty and lay his head on his belly for a pillow. Joseph enjoys sleeping in bedroom with foster mom and will sleep through the night. We have not heard Joseph bark yet, but he might cry if everyone else is in another room or another level of the house. His activity needs to be restricted until February 8, when his 6 weeks post-op recovery is over. Joseph is no longer kept in a crate as he is happier out in the house sleeping on a dog bed with others. He spent a few minutes with a cat and was curious following her around the house, but did not show any aggression. If you are home to take Joseph out to pee fairly often, then he won’t mess in the house. So far he has not defecated in the house. He has lost some muscle tone in his rear quarters, but that should return once he is able to regain full use of his legs and pelvis. He currently walks with a limp, but hopefully over time, that will improve. His staples are out and the pins are expected to remain in his leg. Joseph was neutered 12/28/12 and on heartworm preventative. He is now about 10 months old and approximately 30#. Sweet sweet boy that is happy to be alive after his close call with death, where he laid on the side of the road for several hours Christmas Eve before someone helped him.

12/25: Found Christmas Eve. Was suffering from hypothermia from laying in cold weather (and rain) all day.  Hit by car, has broken pelvis and femur.  His leg will need cross pins and he will need several weeks of crate rest for pelvis to heal.  Joseph is about 9 months old, very sweet and weighs 39#.  He got a distemper/parvo shot 12/26.  We don't know what his total vet bill will be yet.  Please help us help Joseph!
