Meet Charlie

* { font:inherit; } Please contact Sharon (adopt@indyclaw.org) for more information about this pet.

Charlie is a great whiteface pearl pied cockatiel.  He came to us from a breeder who was leaving the industry and had a small handful of 'tiels she had not been able to sell.  Charlie is in a community cage and is a favorite among our volunteers.  Charlie comes to the side of the cage that you are on and nibbles on your finger.  One of our volunteers has been working with Charlie to socialize him and get him to step up.  Once you pick him up, he quickly heads up your arm to rest on your shoulder.

IndyCLAW Rescue, Inc stands for 'Creating Lifelong Animal Welfare'. It is not just our motto, it's also our mission statement. Our adoption process is face to face and involves an application, a home visit, a 'sleep over' trial period, and a reasonable rehoming fee to conclude the adoption process. We will not ship our pets or put them on an out of state transport. We are a not for profit group, though not yet 501c3, and do not receive funding from any sources other than our personal incomes, generous donations from private individulals and our fees. Generally speaking, each pet we adopt out has more vet expenses than the adoption fee covers. We have a vested interest in each of our adoptable pets and want to make sure that their future home can provide for their long term needs. There is also an adoption contract that does include a clause for the return of the pet to us, if the adoption fails or circumstances change making it so the pet has to move on to another home.  IndyCLAW does not sell its pets to breeders nor ship its pets for long distance adoptions.

The adoption fee is $60 for this beautiful bird.  Does not include cage.

We look forward to your emails and inquiries.

The Cockatiel is the smallest cockatoo endemic to Australia. They are prized as a household pet and companion parrot throughout the world. As a caged bird, cockatiels are second in popularity only to the Budgie (parakeet).   Cockatiels are native to the outback regions of inland Australia.

Cockatiel's distinctive erectile crest expresses the animal's state of being. The crest is dramatically vertical when the cockatiel is startled or excited, gently oblique in its neutral or relaxed state, and flattened close to the head when the animal is angry or defensive. The crest is also held flat but protrudes outward in the back when the cockatiel is trying to appear alluring or flirtatious.

Cockatiels are generally regarded as good pets. Like most other pets, the manner in which the animal is raised, handled, and kept along with inherited 'personality' traits have a profound effect on the temperament of the animal. Some birds are quite gregarious and sociable while others can be shy, retreating to the back of the cage when an unfamiliar figure appears. If handled often and if they have a patient owner, cockatiels become tame very quickly.
