Meet Jer-Z

Jer-Z is almost a year old.  She is currently in a foster home. Following is what her foster mom has to say about her. Contact Susan at 828-670-1933.

Jer-Z is a very sweet and smart dog. Even though it appears that she was abandoned, I believe she came from a decent home...she doesn't seem frightened or nervous and she is generally well-behaved; no signs of abuse that I recognize (other than that she is so skinny). She is almost completely house-broken (she lets me know when she needs to go out; she's had two pee accidents in the house and both of those occurred after she indicated that she needed to go out but I was on the phone with customers and couldn't get off the phone right away...so those were my fault, but she needs to learn to wait). She sits on command and comes when called. She made herself comfortable in our home right away and gets along well with our older lab-mix male dog. She hasn't been destructive at all. She's very affectionate and wants to be loved. She's been sleeping during the day on our chairs and bed and at night in a crate. She hates going in the crate but behaves well once she is inside (no barking or whining). She needs more leash training...she pulls hard. She does better on flexi-leash than on short leash. Our backyard is fenced-in but currently needs repairs due to trees being cut, so I can't let her run outside without a leash. She's very energetic.
She eats aggressively and is obsessive about food but she doesn't try to take away our other dog's food and she will sit while I give him a treat first. She eats very fast. I've started putting racquet balls and Kong toys in her food dish to provide obstacles...that seems to help. And she loves getting a Kong full of food! I think she's still a bit worried that she won't get more food.

I need to get her into another foster home (or, even better, a forever home) as soon as possible. I took her just so we could keep her from being killed at another shelter, but I'm not really set up to be a foster home (especially since I can't let her run in the yard). She needs a place where she can run outdoors and play with people who have more energy than I do. I've grown to love her and I will miss her, but she needs to be in a different family.
