Meet ADOPTED!!!! (PANDORA)

PANDORA HAS BEEN ADOPTED AND IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST!!  is a 5-6 month old German Shepherd Dog, who looks single breed.  She is a spayed female with a big old shepherd nose, all the better to do some sniffing with.  Are you looking for a dog to do some K9 Nosework with?  If so, Pandora might be the puppy for you!  This smart gal loves to stick her nose in just about anything and give it a sniffing once over - boots are a particular favourite, but every nook and cranny of every room needs a good smellin', Pan says.

German Shepherd dogs can be very lovely and loyal companions when they are well socialized with other dogs and people of all sizes, and well trained.  Because they are large working dogs when they grow up, the time is now to start instilling good manners and basic obedience in a dog like Pan while she is still a wee puppy, ready to suck up every drop of training you can give her, and now is the time to enroll her in training classes and put a solid foundation on her.  Adopters should be able to demonstrate they are prepared for her training needs and have a plan in place to ensure she grows up to be a well rounded individual.

Pandora has a hard mouth, and when she is playing tug or grab-a-hand she is not very gentle, and doesn't respond very quickly to sharp "ouch!" or shrieks.  Like many dogs with lots of drive, it makes her want to play even more.  Her new owner must be prepared to work on "drop it", "leave it" and "gentle" with Pandora - tug is an EXCELLENT stress outlet for energetic dogs and is a fantastic reward system for training, but should be coupled with training so she does not accidentally grab your hand, and drops the tuggy when asked.  Pan also enjoys playing fetch with a stuffie toy and this is another great outlet for her energy.  But don't forget her brain; shepherds are smart dogs and appreciate having a job to do.

Pan is probably more suited to a home with older children or adults because of her energy, drive, and mouthiness.

Remember that all puppies are cute - nature makes them cute so that we don't throttle them when they eat our sofas ;-)  But cute puppies grow into majestic dogs, and the values you instill in them now help to cement the adult dog you live with for the next 15 or more years.  Please be sure you have the time, patience and skills to raise a good puppy who will become a great adult and an ambassador for adopted dogs everywhere.

To come see Pandora or any of our dogs available for adoption, visit the Surrey Animal Resource Centre between noon and 4:30PM any day of the week.
