Meet Luna (aka Corina)

Could this be your new best friend?

7/10/2013  Volunteer Mike Reed says 'Luna's stay at FFR has been a journey. She came here a little over a year ago a very sick pooch. Her coat was coarse and faded. She had heart worms and was covered with fleas and ticks. She was malnourished and had difficulty walking without stumbling. Seeing her now, in this picture is to realize what a truly beautiful dog she has become. In her journey she has learned to interact with people, to walk on a leash, and most recently to play with other dogs. Luna loves her play pool, bounding into it and splashing about with abandon, as though water were the most wonderful thing she has ever discovered. Luna (aka Corina) is a gentle soul who needs a quiet, loving home where she can be the center of attention. In return she will give as much love as any dog possibly can.'

This beautiful soul came in as one of the worst neglect cases we have seen. We don't know what her life held before she managed to drag herself to the doorstep of the Good Samaritan who brought her to Fuzzy Friends, but we know it wasn't good. Corina, who appears to be a Chocolate Lab or Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix, weighed only 24 lbs, was high heartworm positive, and on the verge of death. A lingering twitch when she walks makes it seem likely that she is also a distemper survivor. It took months to build her strength up so she could finally go through her heartworm treatment, and she has just finished her post-injection month of cage rest.

Corina is a very special girl with a heart of gold. She functions with the maturity level of a 3-4 month old puppy. A recent evaluation with a behaviorist has uncovered suspected physical abuse in her past, on top of the neglect - she moves and acts as if she was used to being hit around the head. She does not have the body language of a normal dog. Despite that, she is learning how to play well with other dogs. We don't know that she will ever be able to regain the time she lost, but we do know that when she trusts people, she lavishes her love and attention on them. Corina will need a special adopter who is up for dealing with a 50lb eternal puppy. If you think you might be that person, please stop by for a visit!

Corina's recovery was made possible through generous donations to our Angel Heart Medical Fund. If you can be an angel for the animals, please click here to donate: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=XPECZSMUT7EA8
