Rocco Pit Bull Terrier Normal, IL

Meet Rocco, a very sweet 7 yr old American Pit Bull Terrier. Rocco came to Wish Bone when his owner moved and was unable to take him with her. Rocco is on the portly side at 78 lbs, but with a low fat diet and moderate exercise, he hopes to get himself back into shape. Is there doggy Zumba?? His foster mom told us this about him: " I love him to pieces!! Rocco is very sweet and gentle. For a 7 year old he's relatively playful. He just got taken away from the only mom that he ever knew and from his brother so he whimpers a bit. He's kind of a worrier but since he is learning that he is safe he has gotten better. His favorite activity is relaxing. He will play with our younger foster dog, but after a short time he has had enough. Rocco is very even keeled. I've never seen him show any signs of aggression. He rarely barks at home but he barks A LOT at the adoption events because he doesn't want to be in the crate. Although, he's overweight, but losing, he doesn't eat much. He doesn't beg for food. He's not the least bit destructive and he loves to cuddle. Rocco is only crated at night. He wouldn't like it very much any other time. He's always been out while we're gone and has acted perfectly. Because he's very interested in our cats I'm introducing them slowly." Rocco is a wonderful dog and will make a delightful companion, however, he does not show well at our adoption events. If you would like to meet him in his foster home (that would be a truer picture of Rocco's personality) we would encourage you to do just that. Rocco is house trained and can be left during the day for 8 hours. Rocco loves food so much that he needs to be fed separately from the other dogs- he is not food aggressive, but he will try to eat all the food. His foster family describe him as friendly, loyal and protective of his family. He is fine with older children, but toddlers seem to make him nervous. Rocco thinks he is a lap dog because that is one of his favorite sitting places (on his best buddy's lap!).  He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm and fecal checked, dewormed, and is on flea /tick and heartworm preventatives. His adoption donation is of the adopter's choice.
