Meet Bailey

Hi, I’m Bailey, a 1.5 year old lab mix.  I look like a lab and I love to swim but I have shorter hair and no undercoat so I shed a lot less than your typical lab. I am tall and have a lean, muscular, athletic bod. I am very well mannered for my age. I am calm inside the house but I have lots of energy and love to run and play outside.  I chase rabbits, squirrels, birds and butterflies. There are no cats in my foster home but I will chase them too so I shouldn’t live with them.  I get along great with my furry foster brother and share with him.   I am a great swimmer and I love to leap from the side of the pool into the water. I love getting attention and sitting on people’s lap, giving kisses and getting my belly rubbed.

I am obedient, very smart and learn quickly. There are lots of rules in my foster home and I obey all of them. I sit while my collar is put on, sit until FM is out the door and says I can come out, and sit at the bottom/top of the stairs until FM says I can come up/down.  In addition to sit & stay, I know lay, paw, out (i.e., get out of FM’s space), and leave it. I have free roam of the house and I do not cause any trouble even when left alone.  I sit quietly on the back seat of the car when we go for rides.  I pull on the leash but FM walks me with a head harness or a front clip harness and it helps a lot. I will sit on my own when I want to go to the side of the road or trail to sniff or do business.  I am trained on an electric fence and do very well with it. I am an excellent jumper and I have jumped over a 4 foot wall so a physical fence may not work for me.

We don’t know why but sometimes I get anxious and I bark at dogs and people. I use to bark a lot but since I started to go to the park to be around lots of people I only bark occasionally now.  Because of my reaction to strangers, I would do better in a house without small children. When I first arrived at my foster home, I got anxious when let alone. My fosters worked with me and they have left me alone for over 7 hours with no issues.

I will need a strong leader who will continue to work on my socialization with people and dogs and someone who is able to keep up with my high energy level.  The time will be well spent- I will give you lots of love and be your best friend.
