Meet Maddie

Maddie is a sweet and affectionate three-year old girl that’s looking for the perfect family. This black and tan beauty has one soft ear that doesn’t stand up but we think that makes her even more adorable!

Maddie is enthusiastic and eager to please. She knows basic commands along with some cute tricks – give paw, “speak”, and roll over. She enjoys showing off her tricks and would probably excel in herding or agility classes. She’s food motivated and learns new things quickly. She loves playing ball and likes car rides whether it’s a short errand to the store or a long ride to go somewhere fun.

With the proper introductions Maddie gets along with most dogs. She is dog reactive and her foster home has been working to redirect her attention when approaching an unfamiliar dog. Her new family will want to continue working on this with her. Once Maddie learns what’s expected of her she will make the perfect canine companion. She is good with cats and formerly lived with two dogs, a cat, and a bunny.

Maddie has EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency) which affects a dog’s digestive system. Without proper treatment a dog can suffer weight loss, gas, diarrhea, dry coat, and eventually starvation. It’s a condition that can be managed with a proper diet and a special enzyme, in a powdered form; but it is a life long condition. Adopters need to be willing to stick to the proper diet and provide the necessary enzymes, which are mixed into her food 20 minutes before feeding. The enzymes help her absorb the nutrients in her food and enable her to live a normal, active life.

Maddie was sold as a puppy, and she did well for a while; but she was returned to her breeder after the family had problems. The breeder found her another home, and she was adjusting well; but she began having diarrhea and weight loss and was returned, again to the breeder. At this point, the breeder found the cause and got Maddie onto the enzymes and saw that she was gaining weight and doing well. GSRNE was contacted and agreed to help Maddie find a home where her condition will be understood and managed properly. She is such a love and yearns to be a part of a family.

If you’re willing to make a commitment to Maddie she will reward you with lots of love, affection, and loyalty.
