Lexi: Well Trained, Smart and Loving American Bulldog Mix Cranston, RI

Lexi is a medium-low energy couch potato with so much love to give.  She is very well trained, mannerly in the house and loves cats!

Lexi was surrendered to the RISPCA by her owner, because she didn't have the time for her. She indicated in her profile that she was sometimes a picky eater, but the staff there were amazed at what they saw when they went to take Lexi in - she was skin and bones, and missing large patches of fur with itchy, irritated skin. She looked more like an animal that would be seized during an investigation than an animal being willingly surrendered at a shelter. Getting to the bottom of things proved difficult - the owner's story changed constantly. Meanwhile, Lexi was checked out by the vet and fed regular meals. She ate readily (definitely not a picky eater) and quickly packed on pounds, proving that her issue was lack of access to food. Her skin issues proved to be more of an issue, and they were narrowed down to likely an allergy to one or more things in her environment and/or food. Unfortunately, issues like this can be very costly to manage fix in a shelter environment, and a dog with these problems can prove very hard to find a home for. The shelter wasn't sure Lexi would be placeable, and so Handsome Dan's stepped up and took Lexi into their program! Lexi is a super friendly, sweet girl who loves attention. She isn't sure what to do with toys yet, but she will! We will be learning more about her during her stay in foster care so that once she is feeling better we can find her a great home.
