Sweet Senior - IRVING! Meet the one-and-only, oh-so-handsome Irving (A16429307)! Irving is an older guy, likely around 8-10 years old who was found wandering around the city all by himself. He was brought to the shelter for refuge, but is now in need of a foster or adoptive home! Irving has very unique markings. He's brindle, spotted, white, brown, black and gray! Irving is likely some kind of Pointer/Pit Bull mix and weighs roughly 45 pounds. He's a bit nervous in the shelter and spends most of his time laying in his kennel, watching shelter-life go by. He enjoys attention and will rest his adorable head in your lap for some love. He has no issues with body handling. Though a bit older, Irving has great energy and gets around well. He could use some help learning to walk on the leash without pulling - nothing a harness wouldn't help! We aren't sure how long Irving was on the street or when he last meal was...

He could use some help learning to walk on the leash without pulling - nothing a harness wouldn't help! We aren't sure how long Irving was on the street or when he last meal was prior to coming to the shelter so Irving didn't really want to give up his food bowl during his food-tests. Though he showed no signs of food aggression, he will need some help realizing that he now gets consistent meals and there's no need to protest having his bowl taken away! Irving met a few dogs during his stay at the shelter so far and while he was interested in meeting them and a bit pushy in his greetings, didn't really seem interested in playing. Irving would probably do best in a home with other lower-key dogs. If you have resident dogs at home, please bring them down to the shelter to make sure everyone gets along! Families with children under 10 should also meet him before adopting. The shelter is no place for a senior dog. Irving would love a home where he can forget his time on the street and get back to being a family dog! Please consider giving this unique boy the second chance he deserves!

Are you interested in one of the dogs at ACCT? If so…
Great! First, decide if you are interested in fostering or adopting!
To determine whether you should apply to foster versus adopt, please consider the following information:
-To adopt a dog means to commit to being the primary caregiver for the dog and keep it in your possession, for yourself for the rest of its life. Adult dogs are $75 to adopt, puppies (under 6 months old) are $125- that donation covers the vaccines, microchip, surgery, etc that the dog has received.
- To foster a dog means to commit to temporarily caring for the dog/cat while also working to find the dog/cat a “forever home”/adopter. While fostering the dog/cat remains ACCT's property, but the foster parent takes responsibility for marketing the dog/cat, and doing a preliminary screening of any potential adopters. When an adopter is found, the foster parent must coordinate with the ACCT Life Saving office to approve the adopter and finalize the adoption. If the foster parent decides after time that they would like to keep the dog/cat, they must complete the adoption process and pay the adoption fee. ** Fostering is not a trial adoption.**
More about fostering:
Although previous fostering experience is not required, ideal foster care provider will have basic knowledge of animal care and training and be committed to finding their foster animal a safe and loving “forever home”. As a foster care provider, you will provide the animals with care including, food, water, shelter, training, grooming and medical treatment when necessary. ACCT will provide clinic and vet care, behavior and training resources, and adoption counseling. We rely on the foster parent to find an adoptive home for the dog/cat, but we can help! We provide adoption events for you attend, can post your foster dog/cat on Petfinder for you, etc. We cannot guarantee how long a foster dog/cat will be in your care, since you keep the dog/cat until an adoptive home is found, which can be anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months depending on the dog/cat, and how heavily you market it.
