Meet Jack (OPIN)

Jack was euthanized, Feb. 2016 - very sick

Lucky Jack was found abandoned in a garage -- lucky because he was found, brought to the Stamford Shelter, was then adopted by OPIN and then placed in loving foster care. He is estimated to be about 5-6 years old, weighs 20.4 pounds and is 10 inches in shoulder height. Now he just needs his forever home and his lucky streak will be complete!

Jack’s loving foster parents have nothing but good things to say about him: ”Jack is a very special boy. He is blind and has diabetes, but that doesn’t stop him. He has adjusted to us both very nicely during the time we have been fostering him. He takes his insulin shots with ease; a few pieces of turkey pepperoni are all we need to distract him for the second it takes to give him his shot. The insulin & amp needles are inexpensive. He absolutely loves his food, which is a special prescription, and most of all his treats. He will not turn his nose up to diabetic cookies, carrots, strawberries, bananas, etc., although you do need to watch the amount of sugar he has; just a bit is okay once in awhile. He also doesn’t mind a bath: he stands in the tub and patiently waits until we are done. Jack loves to walk and always is excited to get in the car. You do have to be his eyes, when walking him, for obstacles in his way that he will not see. You wouldn’t know that he is blind by watching his proud walk!! He goes up and down stairs, as well as curbs, with a simple command. He always is very excited when we come home, always standing up in his crate, tail wagging and one ear up, so cute!!!. He likes to come up on our legs and give a lick hello… He is an excellent sleeper, not really a barker, and is completely house-trained.”

UPDATE: Jack recently was diagnosed with diabetes, and as a result must take 2 insulin injections a day. Such a simple thing but makes his adoption chances slimmer. He also has cataracts and therefore needs a home that is quiet, so he won't be startled by children. Understandably, he is a bit unsure in new situations until he gains confidence. However, Jack's foster parents love him and have reported that they have no problems giving Jack his injections. His glucose levels have stabilized and he continues to be an excellent patient when taking his insulin injections. Insulin is not costly and Jack takes only small doses. We are hoping that just the right person will come along to adopt Jack.
