Meet Van Gogh

Van Gogh is a gorgeous vibrantly-colored green-wing Macaw who came to us when his owner died. He is 7 years old and was with the same owner all his life, so he's pretty nervous about his changed life right now. He will hop onto someone's arm or shoulder but is still skittish and will try to nip. He needs lots of mental stimulation, play, and gentle voices and handling to help him relax and mellow out. He does like to slide down his cage door, hop onto the floor and walk around, and he loves getting misted at bath time. To adopt him, you should have large bird experience, and multiple visits will be necessary to get to know him and make sure it's a good fit. Because Van Gogh can be extremely LOUD, he is not appropriate for apartment or condo dwellers, or even home owners with very close neighbors--yes, he can be THAT loud! There is a significant adoption fee for Van Gogh, as these birds retail for thousands of dollars, and their care can be expensive--we want to make sure he has the best home possible. Call or email about adoption, or come on our tour Sunday at 2:30 to meet him and all our other animals.
